The Mainstream Mass Media versus Alternative News

It is well established that most Americans do not trust the mainstream (mass) media (supported by Gallup polls and others – look it up…). It’s no wonder since most recognize that they are all owned and controlled by the same handful of corporations who are themselves integrated into the establishment as controllers and persuaders of our perceived realities…

For those who even have time to watch or read some of the so called mainstream ‘news’, the fact is that what they’re presented with becomes what they ‘think’ is important. The very carefully orchestrated ‘news’ is presented to ‘adjust’ our reality of the issues which are deemed ‘important’, and they are often repeated as such until the message is driven home (7 times and it becomes ‘truth’?).

It is blatantly obvious to most Americans that the mainstream news media has an agenda which is very much bent to the left. They regularly attack (sometimes egregiously while often with clever subtlety) many values of the independent-minded, conservative, or ‘right’. There’s not even any argument about this fact.

It is also blatantly obvious that the mass media are lapdogs of the political establishment. Very seldom is there a legitimate challenge made by anyone in the mainstream news media of .gov (particularly ‘.gov-left’). This is NOT healthy for we the people. Mass media messaging has essentially become pure propaganda. For those of you who know history, does this sound familiar? It doesn’t end well…

While there are those who are hopelessly lost (believing in mass media ‘truth’ as 100% thereof), the majority of Americans evidently know the ‘mass media’ to be generally untrustworthy. And when there is a vacuum, something usually comes in to fill it. In this case it has become ‘the alternative news media’.

The internet has and is drastically eroding away the power of the establishment who have been relying on traditional and controlled mechanisms of informational content and distribution. Needless to say that the establishment does not like this thing called ‘the internet’, which is why they are actively attempting to control and regulate it.

With that said, the alternative news media (a vast wild frontier) is available to anyone with a computer and internet connection. There are countless individuals, small organizations and others who are presenting their own news and views on the world by way of their own websites, YouTube channels, etc..

Given the ‘open frontier’ there is certainly a VERY wide gamut and variety of sites sharing their own views and news of the world, some of them hard-hitting, some with their own political ‘bent’, others seemingly conspiratorial, and still others that focus (specialize) on one subject area more than another. It’s vast. It’s huge. Some have gained lots of traction while others not so much. And there are those in-between.

The good thing for we the people is that we have a tremendous number of choices for our media intake. And it is up to us as individuals to filter through it all while doing our own due-diligence to factor in the source. Often the truth becomes more truthful as we ‘average’ the many messages that are pointed towards us (although this is not always true – e.g. when the message is being controlled across many platforms).

It is likely that we never know the ‘real’ truth, but we can expand our horizons by looking beyond the mainstream (mass) news media and their alphabet channels…

What’s your opinion?
