DHS Now With 1 Billion Rounds Of Ammo?
The latest in a string of ammunition orders by non-military branches of the federal government comes from the Social Security Administration which is set to purchase 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets that will be delivered to 41 locations across the country. The Social Security Administration?? Really?
This recent ammo purchase comes right on the heels of an order for 46,000 rounds of hollow point bullets from none other than the National Weather Service?! (NOAA later claimed a clerical error and that the ammunition is for the Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement)
Several months ago, DHS (Department of Homeland Security) purchased 450,000,000 rounds of .40 caliber hollow point bullets and shortly afterwards placed an order for 750,000,000 rounds of various calibers including 357 mag.
These ammo purchases have been widely reported on similar blogs and related sites lately including many articles from Infowars.com and a recent interesting post on SHTFplan.com (pointing out new DHS redaction on ammo purchase documents, apparently trying to hide their activity). By the way, Mac Slavo says “…the only legal reasons for redacting government related documents is through a Congressional mandate or a national security issue.”
Do they know something that we don’t? Is there an urgent need? Are they all preparing for civil unrest resulting from an upcoming major economic collapse? A national security issue?
Or is a billion rounds of ammunition business as usual for DHS? Either way, it seems noteworthy enough to point out to the readers of this blog. Take it or leave it…

Social Security? Hmm.. Maybe they plan to cut off our checks and feel the need to defend that decision? They may be right…
@All; My previous “take a deep breath” post still stands, although 1.2 billion rounds for DHS is troubling. However, I did wonder when the 450M was bandied about for DHS, where did all the .40s come from? I frequent VERY large gun shows and keep abreast of the “gun news” through various weekly-ish publications, and have not seen a comparable shortage of .40 S&W ammo or firearms chambered in that caliber nor any price increases for said firearms. The purchase of tens of thousands of .40 cal handguns would have definitely “tweaked” the market, but I haven’t seen it. You would think that there would be a “standard weapon” for the gubment, but alas, it is not so! I would imagine that someone (and yes this is just a guess, but having been around the gubment idiots for almost 40 years it is an educated guess)ordered all that .40 cuz most of the officers they know have .40s and it didn’t occur to them that there might be some OTHER caliber firearms in their inventory. One should remember that the DHS was created in a hurry and prolly got EVERY hand-me-down firearm in the federal inventory but everyone at HQ where this order would have come from prolly has a brand new .40 cal handgun, therefore “order .40 cal”. When someone realized that there are prolly more NON-.40s than there are .40s they just spent some more of YOUR money to order ammo for them!!! Point in fact, the SSAs order is for .357 SIG, so not only do they buy the MOST expensive handgun ammo with YOUR money, they buy the most expensive firearms, e.g. SIGs. Now the NOAA purchase was only 46K rounds and they did buy 500 targets to go with it. If you divide the 46K by 500, it equals 92 rounds per target, which isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things. I will say though that the DHS purchase along with other ammo in their inventory is prolly more than the DoD’s 1.5B annual purchases of ammo. That is an “eyebrow raiser”. As far as using hollow point ammo every cop in the U.S. does so, unless against dept. policy. I also carry HPs, cuz they work better. Worry? Don’t know! Just FYI for your perusal and computation. Survive well. Enjoy.
@TripodXL.
I read the article at SHTF Plan. There was .223 as well.
The things that trouble me:
1) The redaction in the photo.
2) Why does the Gov feel that HP ammo is appropriate for homeland security? They can’t use it against the enemy. Geneva convention woopsie. The only *legal* use of it is against us. I guess that that’s OK. Should things get really bad I intend to use non Geneva munitions against them.
I remember a time when I felt that the Guv was part of the solution. Sadly, I no longer think that that is true.
Be well.

It may be yet another way to put $$$ into the hands of the banksters…
Eric
There’s only one purpose for these rounds, killing Americans. The first bullet used to do so, will ignite the primers of Americans everywhere.
This crap needs to be investigated because some one is getting a kickback.
@ noone;
Exactly! Follow the money to find out what’s behind just about anything.
This stuff needs to be investigated, and followed, as that’s 4 rounds for every U.S. citizen. Survive-All… o… P.S., Don’t get me started on the NWO, NATO, Drug cartels, “Fast and Furious”, “Agenda 21″, etc…
A bit off topic. I hope.
The 20th anniversary of Ruby Ridge is in two days.
Be well.
now that feinstein has put forth her gun control bill and obamaboy will sign it, the dhs knows some aren’t going to register or get fingerprinted. So they will force it, hummm. hope not but they seem serious, as we should be too.
That s corruption. There s someone making a lot of money with this…
their trying to force the priority so they can keep the ammo from going to civilians. that way they can be the source for ammo. get your address and do like the gurtless in missori
the government has way to much power what are we going to do about it just sit . time for a revolution
if homeland delivers ammo like they did water after katrina in new orlens we have nothing to worry about
