The following is a list of the most popular survival-preparedness things from Amazon.com that were sought after during the past year through various references and links on Modern Survival Blog.com posts and articles.
These 37 items offer a glimpse into the average cross-section of folks preparedness interests while looking for survival items / gear to purchase. It looks like the items span a variety of categories including tools, gear, books. electronics, power, first-aid, kitchen, health, warmth, light, storage, and more.
Why 37 and not 50? Because there have been other posts floating around the internet of “37 Things…” this or that, so I thought I would add my own based on what folks have been looking at on Amazon via our site

37 Popular Amazon Survival Preparedness Items,

May I ask where the list of 37 prep items is located? I read your intro, and then you said. “In no particular order, but they each are within the top 37 list…” No photos or words.
Wanted to see where I am according to this “list”. Thanks, Pat
Thanks for the heads-up Pat, it looks like your browser is stripping out the photos on your end. I wonder how many more are experiencing this… I will update the post to include the text. Should be up by tomorrow mid-morning.
I can see at least 15 items that someone should have right now.
I was interested in a solar cooker so did a little digging. While the Global Sun Oven is the most popular, it also has the most complaints of a plastic or chemical taste being infused into the food – (Amazon reviews). Cook’s Illustrated recommended the SOS Sport– Solar Cooker. Here’s a piece from the Utah preppers site on this oven:
“One of the best reviews I read was by Cook’s Illustrated based on the number of models, the breadth of tests and overall quality of the written review. My wife swears by their advice and their reviews are generally spot on, so I ended up going with the model they recommended most highly. I’ll freely admit that it didn’t hurt that the oven was similarly priced with its closest competitors but also included two pots, a water pasteurization indicator and a cookbook.”
We have a Global Sun Oven, and did notice a slight smell when it was new. After several uses it seemed to dissipate. Never noticed it in our food however. I’ve also built several solar ovens, which are fun projects.
Can you post the solar oven instructions? Sounds like something I’d like to try.
I made several over the years, without instructions – just ideas in my head. I’ve not documented them, however it is a general interest of mine which I hope to pursue further. In fact I’ve purchased a website domain name which would allow me to branch into this new area sometime in the future. If I do, I will be sure to link it from this site.
