Reader Question:
The NRA has recently announced Obama has plans to destroy the 2nd amendment by taking everyone’s firearms if he is elected to a second term. What would you do if this should happen? Would you roll over for and submit to the government’s illegal action, take up those arms against those trying to take them away or hide them hoping they won’t come after you?

Answer:
First, I do not believe that it would or could happen. There are far too many guns and far too many good people with guns (there will always be the bad – no matter what happens). I do believe that ‘if’ your hypothetical were to be attempted, that it would truly and ultimately set off civil war here. The 2nd Amendment and the intent thereof, is part of an overall strategy of our forefathers to keep our government somewhat honest – even though that philosophy doesn’t appear to be working too well at the moment…

So, to answer your question ‘if’ it were to happen… As I live in a state where gun ‘registration’ is not required (except for only a few types), one could turn over one or two while ‘hiding’ the rest and no-one would know the difference. While one would then technically be breaking the law at that point, there comes a point at which one will have to monitor what happens next and if something like that would truly lead towards a horrible national situation where one would have to choose sides. It would be an unfathomable divide in our population and the principles of those choosing sides. It would go beyond the gun ban. It would encompass an entire value and belief system at the core of people’s soul. You would probably end up with people moving to States which may not comply with the Fed ban. I believe the entire situation would become an unbelievable enormous outcry of one side against the other.

I believe that if Obama (and/or others to follow) wish to ban firearms, then the only way they could begin to do so, would be to move slowly (which they and others before them have been doing for some time) in incremental steps making it more and more difficult to own a firearm or ammunition. Of course, the ridiculous part of all this is the fact that criminals do not abide by laws anyway, and they will continue to get their firearms the way they always have…

Therefore the entire anti-gun movement is about something else, something not related to the criminal element of our society, but something related to themselves and their own lack of understanding or ability to think beyond the fluffy reality they live in. We live in a civil society, but a society that is always on the razor edge of chaos – should our modern way of life and dependencies be torn away from us for too long. In such an unthinkable event or time, there will be those that submit, are abused, who are stripped of their belongings, dignity or even their life, and then there will be those who defend and fight for their lives and for what is right. I will choose the latter.

~ George Washington

“The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.”
~ Alexander Hamilton

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
~ Benjamin Franklin

“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it.”
~ Abraham Lincoln

“As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives [only] moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion to your walks.”
~ Thomas Jefferson

“Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.”
~ John F. Kennedy

“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.”
~ Patrick Henry

That the said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United states who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms…
~ Samuel Adams

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government”
~ Thomas Jefferson
