Sneaky Ways They Can Take Our Guns

Here’s the scenario: There has just been a mass nationwide terrorist
attack in the United States, much like the one years ago in India but
considerably worse. Over 200 terrorists in 12 cities have massacred
over 2,500 people and injured over 10,000 at malls, religious
gatherings, open crowds, anywhere large numbers of people congregate.
The terrorists did not use any special weapons, all firearms were
purchased “legally”, though some of them were modified to function
automatically. Immediately there is an outcry from tens of millions,
afraid of this reoccurring, to ban the sale and ownership of
practically anything with a trigger.

Gun rights advocates within an instant begin all sorts of defenses to
the onslaught certain to follow from the government. A critical
election is rapidly approaching and many of those elected members of
congress and even governors that have been steadfast towards rights to
own firearms either become silent or flip-flop on what they actually
support. Fear of being voted out of office by enraged and scared
magnitudes of voters that are demanding gun control, they offer little
resistance to the new suffocating gun laws passed by the president.

The very basis of the right to bear arms is a constitutional challenge
that would “at first” lose any attempt to overturn. However the
government can restrict and severely limit what an individual can
actually possess without actually violating the constitution. Sweeping
measures are carried out and many people readily accept these
“compromises” as gun ownership still being allowed even with many
restrictions, all in the name of safety. Unaware these are the first
waves of regulations leading to an eventually effort to start a type
of European exclusion of firearms for the U.S.

First to be prohibited is ownership of anything that can be converted
into an automatic weapon. The reason given for this is that no one
needs a machine gun for self defense or hunting as machine guns are
already illegal to own.

Next in line are magazine sizes that are strictly limited to 7 rounds.
The reasoning is that no one needs more than 8 rounds, one in the
chamber and 7 in the clip, to take down anyone or go hunting with.
Federal regulations already in place for hunting waterfowl require
plugs to limit how much can be discharged at one time is reminded to
the public.

Registration for all firearms starts a yearly fee of “only” $10 for
each firearm, siting that law enforcement will be able to keep better
records and thus there will be less likelihood of it ending up in the
wrong hands. Failure of registration mean forfeiting all privileges of
future gun ownership for 5 years, a fine of $1000, and giving up all
your firearms to the police. The grace period for registration is
only 30 days.

On top of felons not being able to possess firearms, many misdemeanor
offenses are added to the list of those prohibited from firearms.
Those in possession of firearms that are not allowed to can face up to
20 years in federal prison.

Concealed firearms permits are allowed ONLY to law enforcement or
those in security positions such as those guarding armor trucks. “Our
government can better protect you when firearms are not hidden”, is
given in a speech by the president. Searches of “suspicious”
individuals begin in various spots around the country under the
pretext of national security.

While difficult to prove, the amount of ammunition that someone can
own at one time is limited. Transportation of firearms to hunt, go to
the shooting range, whatever, becomes a federal law that ammunition
and firearms must be kept separated at all times in any vehicle, no
loaded gun ever can be transported on any public road.

A new tax on ammunition and firearms purchases is passed in an effort
to limit anyone massing enormous amounts of firepower.

In a public relations effort to better reassure that the government
wants people to be able to protect themselves without the use of
firearms, the federal government overrides all state and local
regulations on NON LETHAL protection. Pepper sprays, stun guns, and
others, become legal everywhere.

On top of the idea of non-deadly force, new very confusing laws are
passed regarding firearms protection, even in one’s own home. The
scheme here is pure intimidation and to make the law of gun protection
as unclear as possible. This makes many people uneasy and uncertain on
self protection using a gun and becomes just not worth it to risk all
sorts of terrible legal entanglements.

There are only the first steps in a mapped out plan for the government
as the next phase begins…….

Don’t think this is possible? Paranoid delusions? Guess again! Most of
these restrictive FUTURE anti-gun laws are already bills or ideas in
congress and with the president, waiting patiently for the correct
time and right circumstances to implement. A mass firearms related
massacre or even a lesser event can be that catalyst for this. Why do
you think the NRA or other gun rights groups become so actively
involved in public outcry when even a rumor of something similar to
this going around the government?

In the United States people have firearms rights that are much more
giving than the recent past and must not take them for granted. The
rights to bear arms can be made very difficult to enjoy in a flash and
dissolved to almost nothing. People must consistently remind their
congressional representatives how important this is to them and they
risk much disapproval come election time for their lack of support.

For those that don’t care about gun rights need to understand that
when some of your rights, such as firearms rights, are taken away that
many other cherished rights that absolutely matter to everyone are
soon to follow and disappear. Americans still have much freedom that
others don’t have in many countries that must be appreciated and not
lost through unconcern and complacency, especially the right to defend
yourself and own firearms.

North Carolina Gun Ban During Hurricane Earl

Hurricane Earl exposed a potentially dangerous law in North Carolina, and may be lurking in your state as well. When North Carolina governor Beverly Perdue declared a state of emergency prior to the onset of Hurricane Earl, among other things it triggered general statute 14-288.7 which suspended the rights of lawful citizens to carry firearms outside their premises for protection of their life or property.

§ 14 288.7. Transporting dangerous weapon or substance during emergency; possessing off premises; exceptions.
(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, it is unlawful for any person to transport or possess off his own premises any dangerous weapon or substance in any area:
(1) In which a declared state of emergency exists; or
(2) Within the immediate vicinity of which a riot is occurring.
(b) This section does not apply to persons exempted from the provisions of G.S. 14 269 with respect to any activities lawfully engaged in while carrying out their duties.
(c) Any person who violates any provision of this section is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. (1969, c. 869, s. 1; 1993, c. 539, s. 192; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 24, s. 14(c).)

Given the fact that during a disaster we nearly always witness looting and criminal activity from the bottom dwellers of society looking to take advantage of the situation, this is the precise time when lawful citizens need to be on their guard to protect themselves, family, and property. It is absolutely astounding to me how a government body would willfully and purposefully strip a citizenry from their lawful right to protect themselves in this manner.

The criminal element of any society by very definition choose to not obey laws imposed upon them. Therefore, in this particular instance within North Carolina, the citizenry is placed under increased danger in an already dangerous situation when they need protection the most.

I realize that not everyone believes in gun ownership and I know that there are those that are simply afraid of guns in general, no matter who has them (criminals or law abiding citizens). Some people are purely pacifists by nature and are willing to succumb to a violent situation if encountered. They rest their hope of rescue on the authorities of government. This is their choice, one which I do not argue because people are who they are, and I respect that fact.

However, when analyzing the sanity of such a law as this North Carolina statute 14-288.7, the illogical nature of it is simply dumbfounding. A person who has legally obtained the permission to carry a firearm, suddenly cannot carry it, because there is a state-of-emergency? This is probably the precise time when it is extra important for that person to be carrying a firearm. Yes? For those opposed to firearms, just think about the logic for a moment. A citizen, trained and licensed to carry a firearm, who is considered safe to do so by the State, suddenly cannot do so… because something changes with that person during a state of emergency making it unsafe? Sorry but, I just don’t get it.

In any event, it struck me as an important notation for the survival minded community. You might want to find out if your state has a similar law during a declared state of emergency, which will affect you (if you are a gun owner) in a time of disaster.

Disasters bring out the best in people and also the worst. There will always be a bad element of society which will try and take advantage of those around them during opportunistic situations. It is your obligation as a human being to protect yourself and your life. What gives a government the right to strip you of your ability to protect yourself. Fortunately in the U.S. we have the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, giving its citizens the right to keep and bear Arms. The current North Carolina law is being challenged in court.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Four Survival Guns

Owning a gun, or a variety of guns can be a core element to rural survival living. Gun ownership compliments the lifestyle of those who are already living a way of life of self sufficiency. Although I know there are some who are wary of guns, and there are parts of the world where gun ownership is outright banned, owning guns is really just like owning a particular set of tools to compliment the other tools that you have.

I recently received an email from Kent, a reader in Alaska, who already lives a lifestyle where hunting, fishing, gathering, gardening, canning, etc…, is common and simply part of his and his wife’s current way of life. He brought up the notion of how firearms are integral to rural survival living and listed some practical recommendations.

Kent from Alaska writes:

If I had to pick one firearm only, it would be a .22 rifle. Even a good one is inexpensive, as guns go, and so is the ammo. It is good for small game, adequate for home defense and medium game, and in a pinch one could take a deer or even a moose with a well-placed shot.

If I could pick a second, a 12-ga. shotgun (pump action) would be it. It can fire a variety of loads for small, medium, and large game – bird-shot to buckshot/slugs. It is the best home defense weapon there is.

Some might argue that the shotgun should be the first weapon and the .22 the second… but the .22 is more accurate at longer ranges and if your survival depended on taking that marmot way over there, I wouldn’t want a shotgun.

For a third, it’d be a tossup between a revolver and a scoped rifle. It would sort of matter on where one lived. In a rural area, the rifle would be handier for game like pig, deer, antelope, elk, et cetera. As far as general use, it is hard to go wrong with a .30-06 in the lower 48. Here in Alaska, with bigger more-dangerous game to deal with, a .338 or .375 would be the way to go.

In an urban environment, the revolver would probably be handier. A .357 magnum or .41 magnum is excellent for home defense. Don’t go for a little short-barreled pocket gun. Get a nice, solid, 6″-or-better-barreled pistol. With a scope, it can also be used for hunting.

Best bet, get all 4 types…

While fancy semi-automatic weapons with large clips may be popular survival weapons in the movies, simple bolt- or lever-action rifles, pump shotguns, and the ever-reliable revolver are far less likely to jam, mis-fire, or break.

Ken adds: I agree with the set of recommendations, especially regarding the .22 rifle. I own several .22′s. They have many advantages including the fact that they are relatively quiet and won’t widely advertise your position (not always a concern, but it could be). I can still remember the very first time firing one as a kid at summer camp so many years ago, the smell of the powder, oh what fun it was…

Lauren’s comment: Ladies (and Gents), I just had to throw in my two cents about my favorite firearm which has always been my Marlin 880 bolt-action, .22 rifle. Unfortunately I can’t really pinpoint for you why it’s my favorite. Though it was my first gun, that’s not the reason. I’ve always loved a bolt action rifle, not to mention the ease with which I can carry it.

top-4-survival-guns

Could this be the list of the top 4 survival guns to own?

1. Glock 19 (9mm) handgun, Caliber is extremely common and ammunition will be easiest to obtain. Very reliable, accurate, and highly owned pistol for all around use.

2. Remington 870 (12 gauge) shotgun, Highly customizable and well respected reliable pump action shotgun.

3. Ruger 10/22 (.22 LR), Well renown respected all around 22 that is highly configurable, accurate, and reliable.

4. AR-15 (.223/5.56x45mm) rifle, or is this over-the-top?

You may find it interesting, educational, and beneficial to read the following very popular book which covers an extremely wide variety of firearm topics, including the book author’s own favorite recommended firearms.
Boston’s Gun Bible

By the way, the author of that book suggests the following (with caveats – you’ll have to read the book)…

Glock 30 (.45ACP) handgun

Remington 870 (12 gauge) shotgun

M14 .308 seim-auto battle rifle

Marlin M70 Papoose .22LR
