EMP Weapons

Reported over a year ago in the Washington Times, “China’s military is developing electromagnetic pulse weapons that Beijing plans to use against U.S. aircraft carriers…”

A redacted but now declassified report from the NGIC (National Ground Intelligence Center) reports on the activities undertaken by China regarding EMP weapons (electro-magnetic-pulse), HEMP (high altitude EMP), E-bombs (electromagnetic bombs), magnetic flux compression generator / microwave and/or radio-frequency radiation.

It concludes that China may consider the employment of HEMP against the Taiwan electronic infrastructure or against a U.S. CVGB (aircraft carrier battle group) should a conflict break out.

The president of the group EMPact America has been quoted to say, “There is also evidence that China is developing, or has already developed, super-EMP nuclear weapons that generate extraordinarily powerful EMP fields, based partly on design information stolen from the United States,”

Richard Fisher, a China military analyst, said EMP warheads are likely to be an option for China’s new DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile for the purpose of attacking large U.S. Navy ships without inflicting immediate massive casualties.

Mark Stokes, a former Pentagon specialist on China’s military said, “Microwave weapons would be used to shut down enemy radar, communications, computers and other electronics in an opening salvo. The weapons also could jam electronics of attacking aircraft and anti-radiation missiles, and as an anti-satellite weapon, degrade sensitive satellite electronic systems,”

It is also suspected that North Korea may be developing electromagnetic pulse weapons or bombs that could take out power grids — not to mention military and civilian electronics.

Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, a former CIA nuclear weapons analyst said that a May 2009 round of tests conducted in North Korea, appear to have included a “super-EMP” weapon, capable of emitting enough gamma rays to disable the electric power grid across most of the lower 48 states of the United States.

We already know that the Russians posses EMP weapons (HEMP and so called ‘super-EMP’ weapons). They also have developed battlefield mortar rounds, that when fired and floating to earth by its parachute, EMP energy is reflected downward by the underside of the parachute, resulting in a cone of disruptive-destroying electronic energy snuffing all electronics within its area.

EMP weapons are no longer considered ‘future weapons’. They are here and now. They have the potential to inflict destruction to electronic infrastructure which directly affects the lives of society who depend upon electricity for survival.

As these weapons are developed further, the risk continues to increase that one day they may be used. Although they do not inflict direct physical destruction as a conventional explosive, the follow-on effects could be just as destructive to our way of life, and result in even more deaths than otherwise.

Most people in developed countries (USA for example) could not survive (literally) for very long without electricity. Electricity enables the systems of distribution for our food and fuel. Without it, we’re doomed…

…unless you are prepared.

  1. I wonder… do we ( US ), have the same capabilities, to counter with ?
If both sides are “thrown back in time” 200+ years, it would be much of a war.

    1. “I wonder… do we ( US ), have the same capabilities, to counter with ?”

No doubt, yes I would say so. I personally do not believe that any major super power would start such a war. On the other hand, I would not be as surprised if other entities secretly did their bidding… It would then simply be called ‘terrorism’.

  2. Almost all military hardware are hardened against EMP effects.

The trouble is civilian infrastructure ie: water, power, transportation, communication normally are not protected. I doubt that your local disaster communication centers are prepared (Fire, Medical and Police).

Excellent weapon to neutralize an enemy. It sends society back into the 1880s.

  3. Cheep effective weapons, been studing this for quite some time would probably kill 90% of all americans within the first year read one second after great book.

    1. I’d like to see the guberment come and try to take food to the cities. Aside from the gridlock on highways, it would be a running battle with locals defending that food. The season is vital to when an EMP would hit and most likely would be timed for the end of summer and growing seasons so more would perish. I’ve always considered this for a worst case scenario to have enough preps to get through at lease 2 full growing seasons. If you HAVE to grow your own food, that means more garden space is required and new garden space usually doesn’t produce very good results the first year or two.

    2. Very good observation regarding the season of EMP. It could be bad enough as is, but if outside of the growing season… much worse. Examples like this support the notion of having a very well stocked supply of food – much more than the average preparedness-minded pantry. One year seems minimum in this case, while 2 years should proved adequate.

  4. In Texas you can grow all year, one of the advantages of living here. You can hide a garden pretty well too. Never got a tractor, so that helps. Plenty of tanks(umm our word for ponds) with water and fish stocked, just make sure you don’t cross hairs with the owners. We have several so we are fine. Just everyone remember trying to come in, we all have guns. ;0 lol.

The only thing I worry about is medications and such. Still working on other provisions such as herbals. Learning some other survival things too. Always things to learn.

  5. The devastation from an EMP would not be recognized for weeks. 1st week, tough going, 2nd week, neighbors asking for items, 3rd week, neighbors demanding you share, 4th week, they take annthing & everything you got! Oh, most people think they can survive without electricity for a while, or even water. It is sooooooo much greater. Turn your natural gas off, the electric panel off, the water meter off, OK, see whats left. Thats it, your done.
Do an inventory of what will spoil and will not. How much water you have stored up. When you run out, then you will have to go and search for water. How much fuel is in your vehicle, even if it will run? If it won’t, you can always trade that for something else. What are going to do now, maybe walk, to where? Death will come instant to those on medical equipment to live. Others not so healthy, month or two? Even the healthy will find it hard to make it due to the pills that have used for so long just run out. This is a good example to take pen & pencil and make notes.

    1. I understand you guys would want to prepare for an EMP disaster, but you are not taking all things into account.

      Forget about preparing for anything.

There are currently something like 61 commercially operating nuclear power plants in the US with a total of 99 reactors that need to be cooled.

Once the power stops, these 99 reactors will melt down.
We know from the Fukishima disaster, just how far radiation can spread from one single plant.

It is not in the best interest of the Russians, Chinese, or the rest of the world to turn the entire planet into a toxic cesspool of nuclear radiation.

And that is why you can forget about preparing for anything of this nature.
The Russians and the Chinese are not stupid, the real likelihood that anyone will use such weapons is remote.
For anyone who did, it would be suicide.

Not to mention the fact the US maintains hundreds of military bases around the world from which to retaliate, should the continental US be destroyed.

      Then there is NATO.
And last but not least, nuclear armed US Navy subs, could bring swift vengence should an attack of this nature ever occur.

      I’m not worried about it.

      1. Hysteria, you have an interesting take on you’re views, I for one will not argue about the meltdown of nuke plants, nor the idea of Russia/China not wanting to toast themselves from a retaliation. I do have a current ongoing concern with Iran, and ISIS, if you think for a second they would not nuke/EMP or anything else to kill off 95% of the world I believe you may be mistaken. I will assure the threat is real, it’s just who/when/how.

Additionally I do not prep only for EMP or the likes. I prep, and believe most here also prep for hundreds of other reasons also, from Economic Crash, Weather related disasters, Hyper Inflation, and so on down to just running out of fuel for the truck. So to say “Forget about preparing for anything” may be a bit of a stretch. I personally believe that living prepared is a smart choice and I personally refuse to run to the store every time the Ketchup bottle runs out.

With that said I know your are willing to live your life as you see fit, As are all those out there that have 3 days of food on hand, I totally respect that. I do remember a good friend of mine in SD last winter without power for 3 weeks, no generator or heat in their home, cost them thousands to repair the frozen pipes and everything that was ruined. I will guarantee you he has a gen-set now and fuel to run it for 3 months. But again, like I said, each to their own.
