guest post by ‘NRP & Blue’
This weekend I’m proposing a MSB Donation Drive Challenge Weekend.
This will run from Thursday Afternoon (7/2/2020) till Sunday Afternoon the same time (7/5/2020), three days..
So first with the Disclosure:
1. NO I am not affiliated with MSB in any way.
2. I don’t know Ken via any means other than here on MSB, his Articles, and his Comments.
3. No I’m not trying to buy favors, any special treatment, or ANY Payments of any kind from Ken or MSB.
4. NO Ken did not prompt me in anyway.
Now before some Lurker or better yet some over intelligent Troll says “Well you must be rich and have all kinds of money” or “You MUST be getting something for this”….
WRONG, What I am, is very grateful to Ken and the many MANY hours AND money he spends on this Blog. If you have never ran a Blog (I have, 20+ years back when they were called Bulletin Boards) then you have zero idea the work & cash involved and the dedication Ken has here.
I also have been hanging around here for 6-7 years, maybe more. The Knowledge here is well worth a small donation. I have been very lax, again, in donations, but now is the time to make up for that a little.
So here’s the deal.
I am willing to match Dollar for Dollar Total Donations to MSB during the time stated above, up to $500.oo Total Donations.
Ken will notify me Monday the total donated, or if we met the $500.oo (my match amount), and I’ll settle up. He WILL NOT send who sent what, I don’t need to know.
So dig into that dusty wallet or purse and donate a few bucks, even $5.oo will help, I’ll match that $5.oo or ??? with $5.oo or ??? of my own, up to a total of 500.oo.
There is a ((( Donation Tab ))) where you can donate with any credit / debit cart.
It’s also at the bottom of each page on MSB.
Do NOT comment on how much you donated or this-or-that. Ken can/will run a total.
Thank you all in advance for helping to support MSB.
As an added Challenge this year, I’m going to Challenge those out there to submit a Monthly Article regarding Preparedness to further help Ken and MSB. Coming up with almost daily articles is a HUGE undertaking.
We have a Good Collection of very smart folks around; sharing some of their knowledge can only further help all of us.
NRP & Blue
You’re on !!!
Too bad my Amazon purchases do not count…….
Mrs. U:
From what I hear from USMCBG, I could not afford the Amazon Challange LOLOLOL
done.
Good man!
I like the idea on the articles NRP and Ken,,,
Have a bunch of ideas, good chance to try and see if i can write!
Waiting till this afternoon,,,
Great idea on drive,
😎🤙🏻
Wishing yall a great Independence day weekend!
Think ill make some brats up!
It isn’t working…
Yes, I tried to donate and it dumped me out.
Done:) And this is my first post ever! I have gained a ton of knowledge and information from this site. Thank you.
Kaw186:
Thank you for posting.
Ken really does a GREAT job here on MSB. It is always good to hear from new posters.
This Chalange will be a yearly “thing” for as long as Ken is here and I’m vertical and mostly coherent, HAHAHA.
Please feel free to join in on the Civilized Comments. And on submitting an Article if you could, Ken is a very good editor without changing the meaning of your writings.
Thanks Again
NRP
I think that somehow, from some company, you have arranged a toilet paper kickback of a roll per dollar donated……………………………..
Haa haa ha, hoo ho ho, her hee hee !!!!
OLD SCHOOL:
LOLOLOL ok, now thats funny…. hummmm but not such a bad idea…. hummm
Need to look into that, thanks!
Donation tab??? At the bottom of each page on MSB???
Silly me. I’m not paying attention. Sorry Ken.
Wow, that was easy!
First time ever I used my card, online.
Amazon, here I come….via Ken’s site…..of course.
What a person can’t learn
Its fun, easy, and painless!
Well right up until ya get yer statement that is
Lol
Every good party usually has a hangover
Statement????
I thought it was all junk mail.
Either I owe the bank or I’m using someone else’s account.
LOL
pssst… don’t tell my wife about the donation… I’d like to thank Ken for an awesome website. The info has been very useful over the years. Now is the time to rally! Send in a few bucks it is painless. We are all under siege by those who hate us for no other reason that we think differently from the main stream of society and walk our own paths.
Thanks, NRP… I made a small dent in your matching funds ;)
Challenge accepted NRO!
I just fired off a Paypal donation.
I have received a lot of value from this site.
Thank you for your efforts, Ken!
Oops NRP not NRO
Fire For Effect!:
Not to worry, I’ve been called a lot worse than that….. today LOLOL
@NRP
LOL, I hear ya young man!
Here is my response to grumpy folk,
“Call me anything you want, just don’t call me late for dinner!”
I have a stander-ed response also. ” I would feel hurt if your opinion mattered to me “
poorman
That is a great come back…lol
Ken,
I subscribe (paid subscription) to a couple of guys on Patreon.
Have you considered perhaps keeping the free MSB site but also migrating your archived content to a paid site like Patreon and offering bonus content to your paid subscribers?
One guy I subscribe to has a regular (free) blog. He also has 2 tiers of subscription on Patreon, $5. As one might expect, the lower priced tier does not get as much content as the higher priced tier.
I am in the >$5 subscription tier and it has been, hands down, the best $5/mo I have ever spent. The bonus content he offers is great stuff!
He hasn’t come out and said exact numbers but just by some deductive reasoning, I am guessing he has close to 1000 paid subscribers.
One benefit of Patreon is there are virtually no trolls. The discussions we have in the comments section are never hijacked by a troll or worse, a bot.
You are a good writer and an excellent researcher, I
Imagine you would be popular on Patreon.
Just a thought.
Above meant to read “two tiers of subscription on Patreon, one is under $5/month, one is over $5 month”
Fire For Effect,
Thanks for the tip. I’ve seen Patreon mentioned here and there on sites. I wonder though, given that I’m not a “leftist” whether or not my type of content would be banned from their platform… Most of Big Tech will want to shut down voices like mine. I’ll give it a look though.
Fireforeffect, that sounds like Mosby…
Challenge accepted! Thanks for organizing it, NRP. I had been thinking the other day about this new software that he’ll need to keep the trolls at bay and how it would be nice to help offset his costs. He has been such a blessing in so many of our lives that it’s nice to give back.
As for the articles, I’ll just put in a suggestion to re-run some that are in the archives. There is a veritable library in there that I personally still enjoy reading when I get the chance. Many, like the one you wrote NRP about your Grandma being a prepper, are still timeless. The depression holds so many lessons that we may soon need again. And with all the new folks who have been joining us, many of them may not have had time to navigate through some of those great old posts that may prove useful or entertaining or thought provoking. Lastly, I think it would be great to hear from a newbie who is just establishing his/her plan, as a means of letting us know what we can concretely help them with today to get them onto solid ground before this impending storm strikes. Many of us had years. Sadly, some just have months to gather and learn and position. We can make a huge difference in their lives. Almost like the neighbors coming from all around for a barn raising. Community at its finest. 😊
M’Lynn:
Holy Cow, how did you ever find that Article???? “Grandma Was A Prepper”…
I had completely forgotten about it, just went to search and there it was, over 3 years ago.
A lot changes in 3 years, now this old fart is holding down the fort solo, sure do miss those whom are gone but still here in spirit.
Personally I’d like to see some Articles from some that are just stzrting out in the Lifestyle, what they are running into, the reactions of their families, that sort of thing.
This is my first time posting as well. I enjoy the site and have learned a lot.
Pecora:
Welcome to the Posting side of MSB.
How about sharing some of the things you have learned here??
Over on the Open Forum of course 😁
NRP & Blue,
Done deal.
If Ken allowed me to post, maybe?
Seminole Wind:
You just did post…. ????
Done Deal Mr. NRP, just kicked in enough for a few gallons of Trollicide and a basic fogger.
tmcgyver:
As long as it was not enough for Ken to fill that FORD
HAHAHA
That would break the bank for sure UGHHHH
Done! Thanks NRP for organizing this. Oh, I bet it was really Blues idea. Thanks Blue!! LOL! This site IS the best. And all of you lurkers you are most welcome here. (Trolls, not so much). Let us here from you newbies too as even us long-timers have a lot more to learn. Notice I did not say “old” timers?
✅
Had to wait till the Mrs got home I don’t do that online stuff
Done!
Ken – if NRP & Blue max out, I’ll be glad to match some of the overage!
FinallyOuttaCA:
That is a heck of a generous offer….
I’m sure, no, I KNOW Ken will greatly appreciate it.
Thank You….
Done – Thanks to NRP & Blue for starting this effort.
done, thanks ken for all you have done and for keeping this blog active
Thanks for setting this up, NRP (and Blue!). I’m in.
NRP & Blue
Thanks for the kick in the pants to send some $ Ken’s way. I’ve been meaning to do it for a few weeks to maybe encourage him a bit, but never had the energy to go hunt down my credit card. I looked at the donation button at the bottom of my screen, and, by golly, it says you can use PAYPAL. Duh…why did I never see that before? Anyway, it was an easy few keystrokes, and done!
Done. Thanks. I wish I could have done even more. Have learned alot.
ken
move your amazon thing to the top of the page if possible. hell, I could have been using this all along had I have known it, and it not been hidden at the bottom of the page. it wouldn’t cost me a penny extra and could have been helping you.
Just checking in…
I would like to thank NRP for doing this. Out of the blue (pun intended) he emailed me the copy of what he wanted to post. I cannot thank him enough for his generosity.
I am forever grateful and humbled by all of you who favor this site to the degree of donating. For those of you who do, I just want you to know how much I appreciate it. I don’t earn much money anymore (my choice of lifestyle change a number of years ago) and every bit helps towards keeping me doing this.
I believe that we have the best “regulars” on this site within the preparedness online realm. I am constantly amazed how many professionals we have here from all walks of life and the diversity of skill sets, expertise, life-experiences… most of you are concerned Americans who feel a connection with the messaging here at MSB. Thank you for making Modern Survival Blog one of your regular stops.
Also I would like to thank those newbies who have commented recently – many of whom have apparently been lurking here for some time. The more who comment the better, because it all contributes towards constructive discourse. So keep on commenting!
As for the occasional trollish drive-by’s that we get (more recently) – this crew knows how to handle them. Thanks for being the MSB Police when needed ;) We are a strong group. No one is going to break that up.
I’m taking some off-time, though at home – will be with some dear friends who are visiting this upcoming week – but will be checking in – have some articles ready to fire off throughout the week – but will not be “moderating” the comments (done with troll wack-a-mole for now). That’s up to y’all ;)
So again, thank you for whatever pennies you wish to throw in the jar. I’m not the type to run drives for myself. Just wouldn’t. But thanks to NRP & Blue. True American Patriots.
Done. I do like the idea of sharing knowledge and experience, articles etc. Ken has some great articles on canning meat. I canned Bacon a bit ago, took pictures and documented the steps. Figured I could share that. Now that I think about it, I might have to make some BLT’s this weekend :-)
Thanks, and enjoy some time Ken!!
DT
I’m in! I do usually lurk, a lot. Don’t comment a whole lot because, really?? What can I say that you all haven’t done or actually taught me?
Thank you, Ken! This really is an entertaining and informative site.
Keep up the great work Ken!
You are a true Patriot NRP, good idea to throw a fundraiser for Ken, as I said the other day I’m not smart enough to do what he does nor would I want to do it for free.
Maggie’s farm, and everyone.
Thank you for the complements AND Donations so far.
It’s actually Blue that’s the true Patriot, as he was knawling on my leg a couple of days ago he reminded me it was close to Donation Chalange time this year.
He, Blue, mentioned we have enough Dog Food and TP stocked for a few days.
So here we are, the second annual Challenge.
Got me to thinking, this year we’re doing it over the 4th of July from now on. What a better way to Honor the true Patriot, Ken and his every growing site.
For me, it’s a true honor to follow such a BLOG.
I did add the Article Challenge this year. I am pledging to offer an Article each month for Ken to publish at his discretion.
I would like to see others to also offer up Articles. For those that feel they have little to offer, how about something about you’re Preparing Experiences so far?
Maybe something on trimming Tomatoes or how to prune an Apple Tree. There are hundreds of ideas to write on……
Let’s help out and start pounding the Keyboard with some helpful information you have bottled up?????
Thank you all again for supporting Ken and MSB
How to start, operate and and troubleshoot a generator?
Deal!
Ken
Another thought. Have you considered taking your entire content catalogue and archiving it in a searchable format on a USB thumb drive and then offering the thumb drives for sale at years end?
Rawles at SB does this every year and sells out within weeks.
Say $19.99 + $4.99 s/h (USPS media mail) for a fully catalogued and searchable MSB thumb-drive? Sell 1000 of them and thats an extra $20k in revenue, with the content you already have.
That would be a TON of value for the buyer as well. Everything you need to know about emergency preparedness on a single flash drive in a searchable format.
Just tossing around ideas. Tell me to shut up if needed.
😉
Ohhh…good idea! Then you would only need power, not the internet, to find information.
Fire For Effect:
I would buy one in a heartbeat, guaranteed.
Could y’all imagine having that kind of information at the blink of an eye?
Copyrighted of course.
I would buy one too!
That would be a load of good information in a compact, transportable format the is not internet dependent.
me three !!
Me too!
You are all three (yes, Blue you sweet pea, you are included!) Patriots! I am so happy and blessed to have found this site a few years ago and I agree with everyone – I have learned so much! So THANK YOU 3!!! And thanks NRP for getting this out here where we can all celebrate and donate together.
I’ll pull out some of those articles I had sent previously. I think Ken was preoccupied, I never got a response.
Lauren:
That would be GREAT!!!!
Lauren
everyone needs time off every so often. I hope, ken, that you have a great weekend
I am so thankful for this site because I see that I’m not the only one working, and sometimes failing, at being self sufficient. According to Terry Pratchett, “Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often the result of lack of wisdom.” I follow MSB so I can glean a bit of wisdom from Ken and others, laugh, and feel a bit of connection to a lot of really good people.
AZoffgrid;
I do believe you have just given me an idea for an upcoming Article.
“My greatest failures in Prepping”.
Look for soon on a MSB site near you….
NRP & Blue
You share your oh,,dang that did not worked for me.
Also considering writing what has worked through trial and mostly error on my part.
Between your article and what we have gone through in the past few years should have a lot of data to share with the folks here on the site.
I know you will have yours processed long before I get around to creating one for Ken to review.
Time to give Ken a true respite.
NRP
Done deal, thought it was only Pay Pal which I don’t have!
Ken does such a great job on MSB I have learned a lot and agree with the comments here.
Hope we can continue as a family and support each other thru thick and thin!
Just to throw out a comment, garden doing well except lettuce. Don’t know if it is our seed but in central NH it has been a no go this year.
Look at your UV levels. Mine are insanely high, and yes the greens are struggling more than most other plants.
Same here
UV was at 13
Everything just wilts
Lauren
Have you tried providing some shade from mid-day sun? I’ve successfully grown lettuce into July during one of our hottest periods doing so. Sometimes I’ll shield a bed with burlap, tied high to bamboo stakes, or whatever I have, so the burlap is held above the growing bed. Morning and late afternoon sun still hit the plants, but not the most intense rays. Worked very well. If you don’t have burlap, you can improvise and use any kind of netting with maybe a light sprinkling of straw on top – providing some dappled shade mid-day.
Next year I’ll be doing all the greens on the east end of the house. The area gets about 7 hours of sun, in full shade from 3 on. Hopefully that will be sufficient. At this point most everything has bolted.
Cheesecloth is cheap too. I am shielding some medicinal plants with some now, plus some cheap clothes pins.
Maybe I could post my biscuit recipe or many other bread recipes! Thanks Ken for everything.
old lady:
You have posted your Biscuit Recipe, OMG!!!!!!
They are a Sunday treat EVERY Sunday, But, ya gotta have a Cast Iron visket maker…..
Done!
Thank you Ken for an amazing site and many thanks to everyone else who helps keep it a great place to visit. Haven’t commented before but this article touched me for some reason and just had to join in.
JTF:
Thank you for being a MSB Junkie LOLOL
Great BLOG Ken has here
Thank you again
Hi all, been lurking for several years but never commented before.
But after reading the past few days with the trolls and all, I wanted to join in helping this great site.
It’s been an absolute ton of info over the years and I’ve long recognized all the time and effort Ken has put into it. Along with all the great info from so many of you who regularly comment.
So, thanks Ken and everyone else too and I’ll be hitting the PayPal button to help support this blog.
Oh and also, love the thumb drive idea mentioned by FFE, I’ll buy one if those come about.
echo4actual –
Welcome! It’s been really fun seeing all y’all comment for the first time throughout the day.
And I “echo” 🤪 your statement on the thumb drive. I think it would be great to have one too!
Thanks M’Lynn,
I’ve seen lots of great comments from you.
But yes, I feel it’s a great time to come out of the woodwork and let Ken know how appreciated his efforts are.
Out of all the sites I visit, there’s only two that I’d really hate to see disappear and this is one of them.
I’m in👍
Enjoy the articles and comments,
I have learned a lot of good stuff here.
I’m in!!
Ken, you are wonderful and you talk to us with respect. The other site I used to be on the host was so sarcastic and mean in anything he wrote.
Love it here. Hugs
NRP & Blue excellent idea. Everyones enthusiasm got me off my Lurking Bu–t ! I’m In Thanks , First time commenting but long time lurker 7+ yrs. This is THE best site with a great variety of content for all.
Ken , truly first rate researcher & writer- you Always Deliver! Thanks
I have enjoyed this site and feeling of community it gives each of us. I am always sharing what I have learned & where I got It.. You all contribute by your input. I was not happy with the troll thing. I voted and open to what ken and all of us believe will help going forward I am happy to contribute, comment & maybe share some things that I can offer, Let keep it going ..
build/invntr1
So glad you came out of lurking to join in – welcome! This is such a great site; not only does Ken put out such quality content, but there’s so much wisdom and sharing in the group. It’s definitely like family. Sorely needed in the days ahead. Looking forward to your contributions!
build/invntr1 –
Here-Here! I second Farmgirls remarks. By your online name, I already like you. Welcome!
✅ Thanks Ken for all your hard work!!!
small sum painlessly donated via pay pal
NRP – you are so on…. my goal is to have you pay up in TP. This will be the new socialism strategy – make NRP share his TP with the masses. I can see it now… TP for everyone. Of course controlled by the “state” and you will be allotted only 4 squares per day as a governmental study proved prisoners only need 4 per day. Happy flushing.
Rwt;
I’m thinking the idea of paying up in TP is not such a good one, after all TP will be worth about $200 a Roll very soon if the .gov has much to do with it… HAHAHAH
Thanks for Donating. I do believe this is a good cause.
NRP & Blue,
You are a GOOD person and GREAT dog for doing this. Thank you!
KEN and all of you commenters are part of my daily life and would hate to loose this source of wisdom. We have reached a comfort in our Lifestyle because of the guidance found here. I will double my donation if we can exceed NRP’s match, just throwing out another little challenge.
NWMitten, and MountanaHome:
I feel very confident we will exceed the Match Amount.
There are a LOT and I do mean a LOT!!!! of good people here on MSB.
Again Thank you all for the Donations.
I know I’m probably missing thanking some on their post, but please know I read everyone of them.
AND a very special Thank You to all of those Lurkers out there that are now in the Commenters realm of MSB, Please continue to comment, Let us hear what you have to say about your experiences in Preparing, or if you have a good recipe on Buttermilk Biscuits (Like old lady does) than please share.
Thanks Again
Done. NRP- pretty sure your $500 has been met.
teedee and others;
I believe Ken has the Donation Tab at the bottom of the Page because:
He dose not want it to be the first thing one sees on the Site, like many, MANY others do.
Honestly I believe this Site for Ken is more about the Information and sharing what he can than stuffing the Donations right up front.
Same way with the Amazon Link.
Do NOT get me wrong, it takes money to run a site, Hence I do this drive, but I Honestly believe Ken is quite humbled about asking for contributions.
But that’s just my opinion.
NRP & Blue,
Sorry I’m late joining the party.
I can and want to donate! But, I do not use PayPal. We had a PayPal account a couple of years ago that was hacked. We lost lots of $$. PayPal nor the credit card company were helpful in recovering our money. So, for personal reasons I refuse to use PayPal.
I’ve sent an e-mail to Ken, hoping we can come up with a different way for me to support MSB.
You know I’ve been here many years, my comments aren’t always helpful, but I try! :D
I’ve learned so much and look forward to lots of new ideas and new MSB friends!
Enjoy Independence Day!
Luv ya’ll, Beach’n
Beach’n;
I do understand the Pay-Pal thing, mistrust, I have never used P-P.
A couple of options, Ken has an Email set up under “Contact Us” at the bottom of the page, and a Secure PO Box, you could mail your contribution if so inclined.
PS: Don’t know about others, but I always enjoy your comments, keep em coming there Young Lady.
NRP & Blue,
I can’t find the secure PO Box!
I’ll keep looking
“Young Lady” pffftttt yea right :D
Luv ya’ll, Beach’n give Blue a smooch for me!
NRP
I looked again, could find the e-mail but no secure PO Box info.
Beach’n;
Not sure where I saw the PO Box
Please just email Ken and he’ll let you know.
NRP & Blue,
Sent an email. Waiting…
luv ya’ll, Beach’n
Beach’n
Good deal,
Thank you.
BTW The mint patch is catching heck LOLOL
I will also be asking for the snail mail address
I tried, but it keeps changing my info. says I’m in Israel. Hmmmm Hope I didnt just send money to terrorists> I dont think the transaction went thru. Will check my card online to see.
Not in my pending charges. Ill try again later
Done.
worked this time :-)
Gopher:
Cool, thank you very much for helping a GREAT cause.
I’m grateful as I know Ken/MSB is.
There are hard times a coming, we need voices like Kens
NRP, DONE.
– Done;
I would have preferred to make it more, but in addition to my day job at the Urgent Care, DW’s business is a small-town weekly newspaper.
In addition to the occasional article for Ken, I also have a weekly “dead-tree blog” I owe a 1000-word article.
Since I still hold the lead at the Urgent Care in the number of Positive Covid-19 swabs (I am up to fourteen as of today; no idea how many negative swabs I have done, but we only test if you are showing symptoms, not just because you want to be tested. There are other locations in town that do that.
DW’s business, like many others is on the rocks. Since we have lost a number of our long-time advertisers, keeping the paper going is costing us a pretty penny per month out of pocket for printing and postage. We will see if we can carry it through until things pick up again; the paper is only 6 years short of a century, which is a very long time for us here in west Texas.
My boss is threatening not to let me do any more swabs at the Urgent Care. I swabbed eight people yesterday and had three Positives. He swabbed ten today (his turn) and had none, LOL!
Anyway, that is what is going on around here, thought I would mention it for the rest of you. That’s why I haven’t really been posting.
– Papa S.
Thanks for the update, Papa S. You guys hang in there, these are certainly trying times.
NRP
Great idea for the challenge. Like just Sayin’, I would rather do a PO box so I’ll contact Ken 🤗.
What a wonderful thing to do for a great site and man.
About the articles. I will leave those to others who are way more articulate than I.
I do have an idea for one , though.
I have saved a bit of money for prepping . Would like to get a grain mill and a Berkey and some well attachment to use when we lose power,( we lose it all the time and seem to be the last to be restored,)
Would like to get a few more things ,but I would like to know what the group thinks would be the first thing I should do? Or what they would get if they saved a bit of the green.
Just a thought. Maybe someone could write something about that.
Hope everyone has a great 4th.
Our plans are to be out on my brothers ship to do some crabbing 😍😍
Yes I know, I know, not kosher, but I cannot keep kosher at my home, I am married to a Christian. Plus I love seafood and bacon!
We all have our shirt comings, eh?
Hope all keep safe and well.
PEACE to all
MadFab
MedFab:
It sounds like you already have the beginnings of a Good Article, just keep expanding on it and poof, there ya go.
PS: please remember 7th grade was the best 4 years of my life…. I’m not the best linguist around for sure, and typing??? OMG
LOLOL
NRP
Ya always know how to get a chuckle bud,,,
Hope ya have an excellent 4th and beyond.
MadFab
I know it’s not an article yet, but spicy times prompt me to respond to your question about where to spend first. Definitely water! If your only water source is dependent on electricity, that is a vital area of focus. A generator, and paying to get it hooked up to the water pump, is a short term solution. A long term one would be a non-electric way to pump that water. My 2 cents.
Enjoy the 4th with your family!
Good Morning Farm Girl –
You said: “A generator, and paying to get it hooked up to the water pump”… Say what?! I pay a tech service group to explain this to people for free over the phone, we even provide a toll-free number. At 120v you’re looking at 3 wires. At 240v; 4 wires – Max. Presumably you are plugging into a panel receptacle on the generator. You can make your own cord set for half the cost of a pre-fab one, better quality and the exact length you need. Tell me a little about the pump connection and you could have this knocked out before lunch.
tmcgyver
Speaking from a ‘my plate overfloweth’ perspective. When I get to that project, I know who to call! Thanks for that.
– MadFab,
I have a 22-foot homebuilt cordset in a canvas bag hung on the side of my generator. It will fill all my large storage containers in about fifteen minutes from deciding I need to use it, to putting it away.
In addition to that I have a home-built hand pump. If you will look up the EMAS hand pump on Vimeo, there are very good instructions in English and Spanish on building your own. Just watch with your finger on the pause button, and you may want to take notes. 20 minutes is a cheap investment, and there are other good video instructions for related stuff, like garden irrigation set-ups to use that same pump.
A few minutes of searching will net you a printable PDF, if you have a printer available.
The basic thought here is if you built it, should anything ever go wrong with it, you will know how to repair/replace it. That in itself is very valuable knowledge.
It’s also cheaper. My cordset cost me about $40, the handpump just over $100 for a 65-foot well.
– Papa S.
– I should mention, the pump is not installed. I and maybe DW helping, can install it in a bit over an hour.
– Papa
Done and Done. Always a great idea NRP. This site is a true gift.
There needs to be a regular mail-in method to use for donations. My online business transactions are intentionally near zero now.
I refuse to use Amazon after they shoved BLM garbage into my in-box and Prime membership. I quit Amazon for good.
PayPal? Last time I went to donate there, my credit card was refused, then they froze my Paypal account after a second try. A week later, I had a big, fat, bogus charge show up from an online purchase from Georgia. My credit card company put our account on hold and contacted us about the odd charge (expensive sporting equipment, nearly $3K). Coincidence…maybe, maybe not. So there were a few fraudulent charges and we received a new card. No PayPal for me.
And Patreon is pro-BLM, like so many other places. So no more middle-men on the internet for me.
Where could a donation be mailed?
Modern Throwback,
The same thing (basically) happened to us! I’ve emailed Ken, but so far no answer. I’m sure he’s enjoying his time with friends and will respond soon…I hope :)
luv ya’ll, Beach’n
You’ve got a good point about Amazon. I read on my kindle app all the time. A while back, after the racism stuff went into high gear, every time I would start the Kindle app, all the recommendations where about Racism, and White Injustice, etc., instead of the normal recommendations for Sci-fi, Apocalyptic fiction, etc.
Very frustrating……
DoubleTap –
Have you seen the Amazon banner offering Prime at 50% discount for EBT holders? That lit me up more than their stupid virtue signaling crap, but not by much. I’ve done year-long AMZ boycotts in the past. All they did was send me shame-emails about all the cool features I was missing out on; never a discount. Ya know, they really aren’t the good bargain they once were. And their Prime delivery promises keep falling by the wayside. I do believe Amazon has gone full-ghetto. I’m losing interest in them by the day.
No haven’t seen that one…. It’s just so convenient to be able to order something you need and have it delivered. I’ve taken to actually price compare with other online retailers and found that Amazon isn’t always the cheapest deal around.
I think I just have a problem with others making unasked for “recommendations” that they assume I would like. Especially when they are dead wrong. Recommend to me something to cool my hen house since they know I just bought a book or some other chicken related item.
I do have to say that even though I’m a bit off the beaten path now the shipping is really good, if I could only get the UPS guy to not leave packages out in the rain :-) I finally bought one of those pool boxes, left it down at the end of the driveway and marked it for package delivery.
Sorry, hate to rant but it really tweaked me out see a racial harmony book recommended to me, since the last dozen reads were mindless entertaining Sci-fi ones :-)
Done and many thanks. Happy Independence Day and may we have many more to come.
Challenge accepted.
Thanks for all you do, Ken.
Rarely comment, but always learning from you all! Thank you to everyone and to our host for endless time and energy to keep this blog up and running with the best preparedness info on the net!!
Donation ✅
Mom in the Mitten;
Thank you for the Donation to the MSB Site.
I’ll be settling up with Ken tomorrow..
Looks like I WILL need to go back to work… LOLOL
Nah don’t do that, Blue would miss you too much when your gone. Maybe a lemonade stand? Nope, you’ll need a permit for that. 😂 Thanks for your contributions here too (both monetary and knowledge), its always fun to read your posts!
Mom in the Mitten:
Nope, ole Blue has not missed a single day of work, right alongside me all the way of his 8 years.
Ok all, the official “NRP Donation Challenge” has ended…
PLEASE if you feel compelled to help a little more at any time, the Donation Tab is at the bottom of each page, Every penny helps keep this GREAT Site going, so send that $5 you would have spent on that Hot-Dog you would have bought at 7-to-11.
Please Note, Ken never pushes anyone to Donate, or does he request any. This Annual Drive is my little way to help out.
I received an Email from MSB this morning with a few limited stats on the Donation Drive, NO Names or anything like that, just the numbers, I have NO need to have any other information than we made the Match Amount ……
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL….. You make me proud to be associated with all that donated….. Honestly I was very Surprised and Grateful with the response.
So yes I did my “Match” as soon as I read the Email.
I know that Ken is overwhelmed by all the support, not only in the Donations, but with the positive Comments and all the Camaraderie of the folks here.
Let’s keep this GREAT Site going, Positive Thinking, Good Information, New and Better Ideas, Open Discussions, Respect for Others, and as always…..
“Is 600 rolls really enough?”
Thank You All Again
NRP & Blue
NRP & Blue,
How nice to be able to do this for MSB. I just sent in the double on my previous donation.
Hello Everyone,
I cannot thank you enough — those of you who recently donated (and those who may decide to donate in the future) for my efforts here on the blog.
And a big thank you to ‘NRP’ who instigated the donation-challenge.
Regardless of whatever amount you chose, the fact that you opened your wallet means a lot.
Each and every contribution was, and is, truly appreciated.
A number of you have emailed me, and I will be getting back to you all – though I’m taking some off time here at the homestead this week.
Again, I am humbled by your generosity. Thank you.
This is my first time posting. I have been checking out Ken’s articles and the comments from the MSB regulars for a while now (maybe a year). This is a great blog and I thoroughly enjoy both the articles and comments. It never crossed my mind to support this blog so thanks NRP & Blue for the wake up call. (sometimes we can’t see the forest for the trees)
Welcome SH in NC!
This was a fun challenge. It’s always a blessing to get to reward Ken for his incredible talent by helping to defray some of his costs. And it is also equally enjoyable to see people such as yourself join the conversation. So many new “faces” came out during the challenge. Proof that he is making a huge impact on a ton of people. Hope all of you stick around and add your perspective!
