Reading the news headlines this morning I was affected by a report that indicates there is an undeniable nuclear arms race going on. And in my opinion that just begs Armageddon.
It may increases the temptation to actually use these weapons.
During his state of the nation address in Moscow, Vladimir Putin just publicly unveiled a new Intercontinental Nuclear Missile that he said is “unstoppable”. That that can’t be stopped or shot down by any country’s defense system.
“It’s like a fireball guided to its target,”
VLADIMIR Putin says Russia is developing an “unstoppable” nuclear cruise missile which cannot be intercepted by any anti-missile system on earth.
The rocket travels 20 times the speed of sound and has unlimited range.
Putin said the new weapons make NATO’s US-led missile defense “useless”, effectively ending Western efforts to “contain” Russia.
Putin sensationally vowed to wage nuclear war on the United States if they attacked Russia.
Russia has also unveiled a number of other nuclear missile programs including the build up of smaller, ‘mini’ ‘tactical’ nukes.
They apparently already have thousands of “Non-Strategic Nuclear Weapons” – another name for “tactical” weapons that could be used on the battlefield.
And don’t fool yourself into thinking that it’s just Russia.
The U.S. is doing the same thing.
It was reported in January,
DON’S BOMBSHELL Donald Trump demands massive batch of smaller ‘low yield’ nuclear warheads because his nukes are TOO DEADLY to use
The leaked plans call for ‘significant investment’ in lower-explosive warheads that could actually be used to combat the ‘unprecedented threat’ from North Korea, Russia and China.
It’s keeping up with the Joneses, except on the nuclear playing field.
I realize that the reality of Empire building and SuperPower jockeying is much to do with weapons and war. I’m also not naive about underlying economic motivations (hegemony, oil & gas, strategic, etc..) backed by military might. But man o man when I see more and more nuclear weapon systems being built it’s an uneasy feeling.
With all that money ‘invested’ in nuclear weapons, wouldn’t you think that there are those who would just love to use them?
Makes me want to revisit Geiger Counters…
5 Nuclear Radiation Detector Choices
We all know that North Korea is upping the ante. We all know that Iran is working on it too. Saudi Arabia wants nukes. Other countries already have nukes. We’re aware of the powder keg between the U.S. and Russian ally Syria. There’s the ongoing military buildup in China.
I could go on. I probably need to update this:
Nuclear Weapons World Map
While other nation’s military budgets pale in comparison with the U.S., when you’re playing with nukes, does it matter?
Anyway, now that I got that off my chest, I’m waiting for those who firmly believe in Mutually Assured Destruction or those who believe the nation’s leaders would never actually loose these weapons from their launchers, or those who believe that nuclear war is survivable.
Who knows. Opinions are always welcome.
The fact is no one “knows”. It’s a “wait and see”.
I do believe however that even if a “tactical” nuke were used today with limited destruction, the FOF would be so extreme (freak out factor) that it would likely be the catalyst to utterly destroy the markets and cascade what’s left down into the rabbit hole of the unknown…
