Scanning the headlines on my regular news sites this morning. I once again was struck by the false narratives and outright lies that Americans are force fed daily.
One story on a gun maker asking the Supreme Court to block a lawsuit against them for manufacturing a gun used at Sandy Hook. Another saying the Presbyterian church has created a “ministry of gun violence”.
Exposure to stories such as these prompted me to, once again, test my belief that guns are inanimate objects. Just tools, to be utilized only at the behest of their handlers.
Guns are inanimate objects.
My first thought was the little Ruger LCP, riding on my hip. It was retrieved from my nightstand where it had rested last night, and placed in the holster as I dressed for my day. I knew for certain that it had not wandered off and committed any carnage.
Then I spotted the “grab and go” bag I had put together last week. It contains my little Taurus PT22 poly, fully loaded plus a round in the chamber. The bag (actually a small “sling pack”) was resting on the sofa, close to the door, waiting just in case someone needed to grab it and go in a hurry. I decided to “grab it and go” to my range.
Jumped into my side by side, drove the hundred or so yards to my range. I removed the little pistol and inspected it. Just as I expected, it was spotlessly clean, lubricated, and unfired, just as I had stowed it away after I used it last. Quite obviously, it had not taken any clandestine excursions on it’s own.
As is common with a responsible gun owner, I stepped to the 7 yd line, the little pistol in hand to test it once again for function and reliability. Quickly I brought the pistol up to eye level, aligned the sights on the 2″ white dot spray painted between the nipples on the steel silhouette target. I quickly, but deliberately, fired ten shots. All shots hit within a 4″ cluster, 5 of the shots hit within the 2″ circle I was aiming at.
Guns have no mind of their own.
I continued on, firing some hundred rounds total, satisfying myself that this little pistol had no mind of it’s own. But it was willing, and quite capable, of performing the task that I, the owner, asked of it.
I returned it safely to the sling pack I had taken it from, to be cleaned and lubricated once again, this afternoon. There it rested safely, benignly, until called upon again, if needed. Hopefully just for more practice.
Once again, I’m satisfied that we in America do not have a violent gun problem. We do have a violent people problem.
This is why it’s imperative that non-violent people should have the ability to access the tools necessary, the un-infringed access to guns, to protect themselves when attacked by violent people.
Gotta go. Don’t like to put a vital tool up dirty.

Since Cain and Able.
It really shouldn’t be a surprise.
The question should be what has changed in the United States culture leading up to Columbine and going forward. The sanctity of life has been rendered almost nonexistent. Killing babies in the womb is government approved genocide. Now multiple states are allowing assisted suicide. Religion or spirituality have been removed from the public square. If man devalues life at beginning and end is it such a leap to do it at every stage of life? If life has no higher purpose ending life of others is sadly the leap many will move towards. No mystery human nature in a unmoored state that is prevalent today.
Why did you drive if it was only a hundred yards? Get your walk on
Gambler,
One hip already replaced, same osteoarthritis in the other one that is overdue replacement. It is what it is. Could just sit around, but I choose to keep moving and doing.
Good advice, but everyone has their own situations.
I’m 36 years old and grew up in a household with guns. We were taught to respect them and appreciate them for what they were, tools. Semiautomatic weapons were readily available back then (although there weren’t the plethora of options as there are today), and if anything, were easier to purchase than they are now, and you did not have the mass shootings that you hear of today.
At the core of it, guns have not changed drastically in the last 20-30 years. It amazes me that anyone tries to rationalize that the solution is to take the guns away.
To The point of Dennis’s article title, guns have not changed, people have. Why don’t we try to fix the actual problem?
Suppose talking mental health points more of a finger at the individual, the family, the system, and society….but then again that may take some actual effort and offend someone, easier just to blame the tool I suppose so all the anti 2As out there can go back to their safe spaces.
Sorry rant over….great article Dennis, sometimes I think I enjoy stripping em down and cleaning em just as much as I enjoy shooting em

“It amazes me that anyone tries to rationalize that the solution is to take the guns away.”
This is exactly the tack that all the leftist governments (and they were ALL leftist) that comitted acts of genocide against opposition or a segment of their society they found undesireable. Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin etc etc etc
An old Jewish guy i knew when i was a kid said ” we should have fought back, most of us were already dead and just didnt know it”
That sort of stuff sticks with you, especially if you view everything through a pair o skeptic goggles,
I see what is going on and see plain as day exactly what went on in many other times throughout history prior to large segments of society being labled as dangerous or enemy of the state, dont kid yerselves into believing it cant happen again, just look at what is going on in Venesuela, once a wealthy oil producing semi industrial nation, now with a media blackout and a socialist hardline government in charge and eliminating their opposition little by little, either by starving them, or by outright pick em up under cover of darkness and they are never seen again, most of Hitlers mass graves were not found till after the war either……
Nothing surprises me anymore… I was just wondering if someone elite person paid these men to kill all these people so they can confiscate people’s guns and void the 2nd amendment, then go from there to where America has no US Constitution or freedoms like Hitler….. Just a thought, of course no evidence…… Guns don’t kill, people do and it has been due to HATE….. The Democrats promote HATE….
I seriously doubt they were paid, although programmed is certainly possible. Money leaves a trail, and people with the desire to do something like this know it does. Far easier to make friends, talk easily about the possibilities, and gently work the individual up to the pitch needed to plan and carry out the act.
Lauren, have you seen any reports on the shooters (prior to shooting)….that is, were they on any prescribed drugs, psychiatric / sleep meds / stop smoking meds/ malaria meds/ etc..? If I recall, nearly all, if maybe all, mass shooters/killers in States and Canada were on some such.
I’m 60 years old and we used to take our shotguns to school with our shells so we could go to Duck bridge after school to hunt ducks,”of course”. We left them in the principles office until school got out. We had rifles and handguns in our pickups in high school. We would sharpen our hunting knives in the high school lunch room as we ate lunch. Like you, all of us had access to firearms in our homes, yet we were all responsible and no one was ever shot. We shot 22 rifles in boy scouts and had a shooting range in our grade school gymnasium. We shot at targets in front of lighted bullet traps. Miss using a firearm was not even fathomable to us. We were taught responsibility and consequences at a very early age. Today, the government treats adults like irresponsible children that needs to be protected from themselves. The 60’s was the begging of the new liberal social experiment that has failed completely, yet they keep wanting to expand it further. Freedom and personal responsibility needs to be taught more than ever.
Same here. I’m 64 and got my first gun, a bolt action .22, when I was in the second grade. My dad took me hunting several times a year on the old family farm. It stayed behind the front door, loaded, when not in use. I still have that gun, along with many others. It has never slipped out the door when I wasn’t looking and shot anyone. The liberals forced the closure of the mental institutions in the ’60s. Now, people with mental health problems are without the help of the past. They either wind up homeless on the street, in jails (which are not equipped to handle them) or mixed in the population. Many wind up killing themselves or someone else because of their mental health condition. I guarantee the El Paso shooter today had a mental health problem. Sane people don’t go on killing sprees in Wal-Mart. He was, at the least, a sociopath based on some descriptions from witnesses. The tool he used to kill is insignificant. He would have used another tool to do the job.
The reality is our society is crumbling. The democrat party has turned completely socialist, un-checked immigration has intentionally created a cultural division in the western nations, victimization instead of individual responsibility dominates the individuals narrative, religion and morality is a thing of the past, the family unit is no longer deemed important, gender roles are considered evil, American history is now demonized and considered evil, free stuff dominates the majority’s thinking instead of freedom, young adults publicly freak out and commit vandalism and attack people with whom they disagree with, our cities have literally become open air cesspool over run with the homeless and drug addicts, while virtue signalling and power grabbing has become the response of choice by most city officials……………….Over half the population has lost its mind and is completely separated from reality while 1 out of 6 people are on psychotropic drugs, free speech is now considered hate speech and should be shut down ………………… Did anyone think this was going to have a happy ending????????? We do live in interesting times!
The shooters may have a mental problem and that may be the source of their actions, however, I don’t rule out someone paying them to do so… far fetched but I don’t rule out anything.
I agree with you…a gun cannot fire without a person behind it. People are so angry today and until that is fixed…..we are in real trouble.
When I was in sixth grade everyone took a gun safety course. It was about an hour an a half Mon-Thur, then on Fri you took a test. If you passed you could get your hunting permit.
Even if you didn’t want to go hunting it gave you a little knowledge about guns and being safe around them.
Everyone paid attention and was respectful to the man who did the class. You never had the shootings then and just about everyone had guns in the house cause you would see them when hunting season came around.
It’s definitely mental issues or maybe the lame stream media is using subliminal messaging that is causing this anti 2nd stupidity.
– Well said, Dennis, well said.
– Papa S.
I have multiple gun safes, but now I wonder do I keep the guns in them to protect them from theft or to keep them from getting out on their own and committing crimes? (Sarc) LOL
Guns don’t need to be banned, Democrats do….. A few examples:
Who shot Abraham Lincoln? A Democrat
Who shot MLK? A Democrat
Who shot (but didn’t kill) Ronald Reagan? A Democrat
Who shot (but didn’t kill) Steve Scalise? A Democrat
Who is pro abortion that kills roughly 1,000 babies a day? Democrats
The babies are unarmed just like all the other examples. What would they do to you if you were unarmed?
Maybe Democrats should all have cavity searches when going into government facilities to be safe…..LOL
I have a problem with guns,,,,
I dont have enough!
But seriously,
Great piece Dennis, it never ceases to amaze me how slow people are to believe whatever they are fed by mass media and so called government employees who know better than us what we need.
Criminals will commit violent crimes with whatever they have, not many of the daily murders are committed by guys with legally acquired weapons,
They would have used a rock if they had to.
Oh well, this is the world we live in now where people are victims and believe everything authorities tell them,
Ill bet Baltimore would be safe if the gun owners gave up their guns,,,😳
Thanks Dennis, hopefully your nicely written article helped educate a “gun control advocate” to think about reality and rationality.
Gun control will not stop people from killing someone if they have a mindset. Criminals and nuts always find a way to obtain a gun… I don’t mind a thorough background check, finger printing, etc. but I don’t like having my constitutional rights violated which includes the 2nd amendment rights….. I will not bow down to the liberal left on gun control issues.
Agree with you…… criminals will always find a way to kill if that’s their mindset. Even if they can’t get a hold of a gun because there wasn’t any left in the world, they would use knives or vehicles……..which has happened more than once. Now then, would they take all our knives and all our vehicles. We need to have real thorough background check like you said and finger printing. But why does the liberal left think that they should take away the guns of law-abiding citizens who want to be able to protect themselves because of these angry evil people………. The 2nd amendment has to be protected.
And i forgot to mention the obvious.
The 2A
Was not written for hunting
Was not written for target practice
Was not even written for self defense,
It was written after a time of war
It was written to provide a means for the people to get rid of an abusive government, period,,,,
Yall think about it a bit,
More people were killed by their own leftist governments in the 20th century after being disarmed by that same leftist government than were killed by all wars combined.
Never disarm
Never get on the bus
You are going to be dead anyway so might as well take one or two with you.
As the saying goes if your going to die at least die standing up.
You are right and I just learned this a short time ago.
I am not a violent person. Never been in a fight in my adult life, attend church on Sundays, retired from a medical ministry. BUT, they can have my guns and Bibles when they pry them from my cold dead hands.
Amen,
Cold dead hands
good writing Dennis
We do not have a gun problem. We have in many places a culture problem. I would bet if you took a map of counties with the highest murder rates it would overlay a map of counties with the highest rate of babies born without a father in the home. I unfortunately have experience with no father. I was very lucky to have two grandfathers and uncles to pick up the slack.
Reminds me of a situation on a game preserve in Africa that I heard about a few years ago. They transported a group of young elephants to another area of the preserve to start a new herd. A few years later elephants were being found dead, gored to death. With observation they learned that the young (unsocialized) bulls were doing the killing.
The solution turned out to be reintroducing grown (socialized) bulls to the herd. The killing stopped as the older bulls taught the younger proper herd behavior.
Thanks to Dennis for the nice article. It reminds me where to place my priorities.
I still work in locked asylum where we have a shortage of beds for crazy people who do stupid things with inanimate objects every day. Dennis’s talk reminded me how necessary it is for me to go into work today in order to do my job today.
Being the asian driver, I have to be careful about driving to and from work as there are festivals and county fairs going on today as well. Though I joke about being an asian driver sharing the roads with you-all out there, When was the last time you saw the gun control folks get upset about banning motor vehicles or alcohol? illegal street drugs?
Our latest admit to the psych ward hit his landlord with an iron with the cord flailing. Instant GBI – Grave Bodily Injury. No firearms involved.
The last time I got in a public argument with a gun control person, he was a young, healthy single guy that was bragging about his recently obtained black belt in some martial art. I waited until. he was finished before I put forth my argument:
“What about those of us that are old, physically disabled, not as fast or as strong as we were when I was your age? Who will protect us when the goblins are within striking distance and the police response time is 5+ minutes away? Who will protect us and how will we protect our children and loved ones?”
I finalized my speech with a true story from my days in uniform about suspects that we took down hard and how they were trying to get our weapons from our holsters during the wrestling match on the side of the road. When you are outnumbered or the goblin is bigger than you and they are after you, you want an equalizer on your side.
Thus ended my speech. I only got a C for a grade. Quietly afterwards, I was approached by many who told me they quietly agreed. Not bad for the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.
These days, the largest growing group of new gun owners in my area are 50 years old and up. Both male and female. I am one of many people meeting with them and getting them started on safety rules at our range and we offer hints for safe storage within the home. ( either a lockable drawer or security cabinet at home for when grandchildren come over to play.)
Well done Dennis, rational Thank you.
Related article on townhall.com about Supreme Court, and 2A.
Breitbart is reporting another mass shooting at a Walmart in Texas. We live in a fallen world for sure.
Apparently someone in custody. No word on who or why yet – or exactly how many have been murdered.
What I typically first want to discover when something like this happens is… Who did it, what was the motivation, mental health issues, were there anti-depressant drugs involved (has been confirmed multiple times before with young people flipping out), was the person already known by law enforcement, or just some crazy nutjob, things like that.
A politician on other hand… the first thing they want to know is: Where’s the cameras and how do I get in front of them to unleash my anti-gun rant.
Marfoogle news, in chat box of video called” Do not cover”. One person reports that shooter posted on fakebook yesterday what he was going to do and when. He lived 10 hours from scene.and wal mart manager was aware of threat. Lori COLLEY in her release called the praying citizen… tells about the info on the shooter being changed form demoncrat at 402pm to rebulcrat by 4:47 p..wonder what else they are changing….???/huuummmm
Guns are easy to blame because liberals don’t want to admit that the past 40 years of undisciplined, out-of-control, let them do what they want children combined with the internet and violent video games have created some mentally unstable and angry killers. Blaming guns also furthers their destruction of the 2A agenda.
we have no control over crazy people, but we can control who is allowed to own assault rifles
rm,
A couple of thoughts on your comment-
If we “have no control over crazy people”……then it follows.”we can NOT control who owns ‘assault’ rifles”.
Assault rifle? At what point does a weapon become an “assault” weapon? If someone attacks my home using a single shot bolt-action .22 rimfire “kid’s gun” and I defend my home with a M14-A1 SoCom 7.62×51 semi-auto Scout Rifle, which one of us is using an “assault rifle” and which one is deploying a “defensive rifle” ?
No offense, but the term “assault rifle” is just another ploy of the left to demonize by deception, using word assignment. Demonizing the tool, not the person using the tool.
The term “assault rifle ” , I believe, was coined by the anti-American communist sympathizer Dianne Feinstein, who decided the AR designation of the AR15 meant assault rifle, when, in reality was for the manufacturer Armalite.
Amen
Thanks for the great article Dennis. It’s only reasonable to assume if guns go out and kill people, then cars most definitely go out and kill people. So do trucks, knives, crowbars, hammers, and, and Bees and spiders. How do we ban all of those??? I think it’s safe to assume it’s the crazies, nuts, and terrorists that kill people. Well, except for the bees and spiders. I’ll give them a pass. I believe some of it is mental illness, that needs to be recognized and treated. The other half, well, how do you recognize a terrorist, or a loaner or small group bent on killing and inflicting terror? Or someone flipped out on drugs. Especially if they have no record. I don’t know. I guess “caution” would be the word of the day when going out anymore. Be alert and be prepared. Get that handgun training and your conceal permit.
The tragedy in ElPaso is horrific. However guns are not to blame. Stop showing the shooters name and face. Stop showing his “manifesto”. This is why it keeps happening. They want the coverage. They want the “celebrity”. Stop giving it to them. Refuse to give them airtime. Start executions for these people. You will have fewer. Mark my words. God bless the victims and families.
Texasgirl, Do they still have big ant hills in Texas? recon how he would like to be skinned and staked out by one with a little honey to soothe the tenderest of places..and protect them from sunburn.. 20 dead 26 injured , last count i heard.many are critical. keep praying for those victims and their family…Do not forget the first responders and others who are working this scene. it must be horrrific, one can’t “UN-see” these things.
Texasgirl,
I agree with every word!
Beach’n
Texasgirl— agree. Wondering also, if something I read long ago (likely fiction, but maybe not)…..Long ago, there was a nice Italian town, where suddenly there was a spate of suicides……All young folks, all seemingly no problems. After each suicide there was much wailing and tears and much spoke of, etc. etc… Finally the Mayor announced, the next suicide, and every one there after…..the body would be stripped naked and hung in the town square until the crows picked it clean. There would be no more public discussions of the “sad” person. There would be short private funerals. etc … The next suicide, the Mayor did as he “promised”. It was the last one.
As I go about here in Texas, I see people with an incredible level of anger. I listen to their tales of woe (it is actually hate). This is in both the young and old. There seems to be one common thread amoung these people – stress. As an old man I see that this stress did not exist years ago. Years ago no one had free time or easy money, life was about working to survive and God in your life. Today, and years gone by, people carried firearms, having a license to carry makes no difference. The stress ( internal anger) makes people quick to reach for their gun. As I first interact with people I look to see how stressed out a person is before I open my mouth to have a discussion. I carry everywhere and I find myself on high alert all the time. Unfortunately, today Texas is full of liberal idiots with no real meaningful life experiences to guide them.
Saturday a liberal ask me why I carry a gun. As a joke I replied ” I would be very embarrassed if I did not have my gun and I met someone that needed to be shot a few times”. The liberal had no real life experiences to know this was a joke and went into a full blown meltdown. This fellow was very stressed out to start with. A friend next to me ( a cop) broke out in a belly laugh- he knew it was a joke.
As of the end of July 2019, there have been 293 murders (“gun violence”?) this year (so far) in Chicago. Evidently 66 people were shot in Chicago over the 4th-of-July weekend alone.
Apparently 437 shootings in Baltimore so far this year.
That’s 730 in two major cities.
I could go on with other cities.
Why do we not hear about all that “gun violence” (more accurately, “people violence”) on the nightly news?
I could answer, but I’ll let you guess…
This is the stuff that most of the sheep dont even know about, nor do they care because it does nothing for their ratings on Instagram!
Im tired, very sore, and ok with not being here in spite of thoroughly enjoying my mundane life.
This stuff is going to come to a head soon, i can feel it in the air,
It will be sold to the sheep as common sense gun control to keep everybody safe and will end with a large segment of the population being exterminated by the left,
again
Ken, I’m not sure where you get your info but it seems inaccurate. I just traveled through Chicago and have several friends there. The news covers the murders and gun violence nightly. When I was there, I was shocked to see the difference between my home town and Chicago. Every night at least 1-2 new murders on the news, of course, not always related to guns.
To my knowledge, you live in California? Do you really expect your local news to cover murders in Chicago or Baltimore?
@WHTC,
I see your confusion, you’re using the “local” news as your argument. That’s right, the news in small-town USA is not going to report on the hundreds of annual shootings in Chicago (for example), or other cities. I should have been more clear and indicated mainstream national news sources such as all of the alphabet channels and such…
The information (statistics) for these shootings is easily accessible via a internet search using your favorite internet-search-provider. Though it is not surprising to me at all (regarding regular shootings and murders in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, and many others), when you put it all in context, it’s interesting how the mainstream news will not report on the ‘people violence’ in this regard.
Also, no, I do not live in California. Though I spent more than a decade there.
Ken
“should have been more clear and indicated mainstream national news sources such as all of the alphabet channels and such.”
Ahh
No need to be more clearer.
There are those that think with an open or closed mind.
The majority of us here understood your posting.
Sorry I’m not calling the statistics false however The lack of context makes is seem misleading. How many murders were there last year in those cities? And prior to that? Maybe that rate is low for the city or maybe it truly is a large number. For example, if I told you there were 33 murders in El Paso this week, you might think it’s dangerous but that’s not really painting an accurate representation of the city.
I actually don’t really care for the mainstream media or really any media outlet for that matter either and I agree they selectively pick what they want you to see. The media only puts outrage news out. They constantly try to divide people in 2 categories when it’s almost never that simple. Most Americans are not strictly pro-gun or anti-gun but everytime mass shootings happen the media makes you choose a side.
Okay WHTC,
Glad that you’re not a sucker for msm.
They will not talk about the hundreds and thousands of shootings that occur in certain inner cities each year because it doesn’t fit their narrative. Simple as that. They let that slide…
WHTC
I can see your point.
Not all shootings in Detroit, Flint, Saginaw areas would make the news elsewhere. (All Democratic ran cities I might add).
Just to point out, that some alt news sites do highlight how many murders do accumulate in these cities of Chicago, Baltimore, and the like.
So tell me, are the local news sites of Chicago like an hour long?
I mean, after covering all the murders, they would have to be able to fit in other news, the sports and weather.
To whathappenedtocompromise, On the left, there is no compromise, it has to be their way or no way. You can see this attitude on any discussion. A liberal is given their time in the spotlight, but when there is time allotted for other views, unless the moderator has the guts to control it, the liberal talks over the opposing views. As far as a liberal is concerned there is no ideas but their own.
I quit college 48 years ago because I could no longer stand to go to a class where the professors did their best to brainwash students into believing the only way for the USA to survive was to trash the Constitution and embrace communism. Communism is not what the USA was founded on, and has failed everywhere it has been declared the law of the land, but apparently democrats can no longer read history, and are now hugging communism like it is the lifeline of all reason.
You ask why the violence of today? Take away the teachings of the Christian faith, and what you have is anarchy, and the belief of the here and now. Notoriety is the god of Godless people, and by killing innocent victims the fake media make them famous for weeks on end. If the media would focus on the lives of the victims and never mention the name of the perpetrator you would see a drastic reduction of these types of atrocities, but no the fake media has to sensationalize the killer to drag the story out for a longer period. If it bleeds it leads is the mantra of the so called media, along with the communist manifesto.
Only idiots would think they can stop deranged people from killing others by taking away the means of self defense of the weaker members of society. If a person is determined to kill people, and themselves the way to get maximum effect is a suicide bomb, a home made grenade or setting fire to large area after blocking the exit.
And you make the point that a local paper will not carry homicides committed in other cities. No they won’t, but let a deranged person shoot one person in another city and it is on national news for days. Most if not all the cities that have a local homicide problem are democrat run, and have been run into the ground for years.
If you take the top 20 counties in gun violence out of the count, we have a murder rate comparable to Europe. Guess what all those counties/metropolis’ have in common? They are all run by Democrats…
Maybe Ken can run that statistical backdrop, but the last time i was reading about it our murder rate was amongst the lowest compared to many many other countries, among the worst were several south american countries and a bunch out of the African continent….
This is murders per 100,000 population using ALL weapons, not just firearms. From worldpopulationreview (since I don’t want to patronize wikipedia). I don’t know what year.

I thought it was entertaining (negatively) that the BBC displays a graphic showing the US up against gun control countries and says 78% of murders in the US are committed with a gun as a percentage of homicides. In other words, lets just take out the actual pesky numbers and present a damning inaccurate graphic.
Excellent Lauren.
The first time i read that i thought it might be BS, then i saw a similar paper out of the UN, with very similar numbers.
This will never be shown to the people.
In reality, if we took the numbers from the big cities Vs the numbers from rural and small town America it would be eye opening, well to some it would, to most it wouldnt even register.
I bet more people are killed by food poisoning than guns, maybe the CONgress and other corrupt political hacks could ban food so nobody dies from it.
How about medical mal practice?
Kulafarmer
Ohh how silly you are…..
G u n control measures are for those to not fight back on a sick and twisted . Gov

Food poisoning is just an added bonus to kill off the masses
Heart disease, 23.5%
Cancer, 21.3%
Injury, 6%
Lung conditions, 5.7%
Stroke, 5.2%
Dementia, 4.3%
Diabetes, 3%
Communicable disease, 2%
Kidney disease, 1.8%
More than 250,000 people in the US die every year from medical mistakes. So that puts medical malpractice right after Cancer in the rankings. Ironically, “injury” includes car crashes as well as homicides. According to the CDC there are 5000 deaths from food-borne illnesses every year. The statistics on gun crimes are murkier because everybody has their own way of calculating the numbers. Something like 70% of gun “crimes” are suicide or attempted suicide, and the FBI doesn’t seem to correlate deaths with gun crimes.
“And while Chicago has drawn widespread attention for its soaring murder total in recent years, its murder rate in 2017 – 24.1 murders and non-negligent manslaughters per 100,000 residents – was less than half of the rates in St. Louis (66.1 per 100,000) and Baltimore (55.8 per 100,000).” (From pewresearch.org)
If there are 4900 murders per 100,000 population in the US, and 70% of those are firearms related, that leaves apx 1500 per year per 100,000. If 70% of that 1500 are suicides, the remainder is apx 450 per 100,000. This is where the statistical anomalies come in, because the FBI statistics and the CDC statistics don’t match up. The CDC doesn’t correlate “crimes,” while the FBI doesn’t correlate “deaths.” So someone looking for cherry-picked stats can choose whatever numbers match their expectations and make correlations that don’t exist.
OK, so I’m not a mathematician.
It should be 1000, not 450.
4900*.7=3430
3430*.7=2401
3430-2401=1029 gun homicides, not suicide related, per 100,000
Lauren – you wrote ” 250,000 people in the US die every year from medical mistakes”==========bet it is much more. Those are just the ones “known about”.
Jane, that number was from independent research at Johns Hopkins. It wasn’t a .gov number, since the .gov doesn’t keep track of that.
Rather sad that I trust a hospital more on this topic than the US government.
They also have ridiculous gun laws. Wish somebody would do a statistical comparison of gun deaths in cities or states that have prohibitive gun restrictions (Chicago, for example).
While the shootings in Texas and Ohio were the predominant coverage this weekend, Chicago had 7 gun deaths, bringing the total for the year to over 300.
“Police said seven people were killed and 52 wounded by gunfire throughout Chicago from Friday evening to Sunday, including a 5-year-old boy who was shot in the leg while sitting in a car.”
These cities are living proof of the stupid argument that a society without guns would be safer. So much for gun control…Chicago has, if not the strictest, one of the strictest gun laws in the country.
You said, “These cities are living proof of the stupid argument that a society without guns would be safer. So much for gun control…Chicago has, if not the strictest, one of the strictest gun laws in the country.”
That is an ‘inconvenient truth’, the mainstream will not talk about it. It’s proof that they do indeed have a agenda.
Curious ‘factoid’…both Texas and Ohio shooters were reported to have worn ‘ear protection’… A new ‘accessory’ for mass shooters? Coincidence?
Well, guns are loud…gotta protect one’s hearing.
Nemo
Have you read Bracken?
Considering recent events with DOIj BS
I would not be surprised if some spooks had a hand in this
Police took out the Ohio shooter in 30 seconds from his first shot…does that seem to anyone else they had fore warning? False flag operations?
sure they had a warning… event in el paso was reprted by tweet 20+ hours in advance NBC news. see mike morales u tube report today re:msm news.. before they remove it. look at those epictures.. and conner betts supposed to have died in 2014 ,
When I was a child, we used to play “Army.” Usually, it was Americans Vs The Germans. War toys were everywhere! And, we learned so much about tactics and working as a team, too.
Now, kids sit in the basement and play computer games, where they can have fun killing people, and murdering even innocent by-standers, as they steal cars…and kill the police.
Playing ARMY was a better way….
And we need to get rid it of those assholes, thanks, Dennis ..
GUN CONTROL
today is Sunday, 8-4-19 @ 7PM
the Gilroy, Cal. Garlic Festival last Sunday, 7/28/19 ( 4 dead, 12 injured )
the El Paso mass shooting yesterday… 8/3/19 ( 20 dead 2 dozen injured )
and now, today: Dayton Ohio on 8/4/19 ( 9 dead, 26 injured )
My collected thoughts, about; FACTS,…
RAW Facts :
Something like 90% or more of mass shooters in the last couple of decades are one of two things
1) they are found to have been some sort of social outcasts, and on mind altering psychotropic drugs
2) they are very often radicals from ‘the Democratic side of the aisle’ and are never “an NRA member”
And very OFTEN,
some kind of a government ‘anti-terror’ “exercise” happened just before the actual ‘event’ at the same place
WE the People -SMELL A RAT-
WE also KNOW, that more government and more laws is not the answer.
100% of the time, ‘government’ FAILS to protect its citizens. And THAT is a FACT.
In FACT, did you know that Governments murdered 56 million of their own people in the last century after disarming them? Government is ALWAYS about gaining more POWER over its citizens. Eventually, and inevitably, this is how it is done . There are many truly evil people on this planet
A simple perusal of the news –what ‘news’ they will give you about these heinous crimes will always lead a THINKING PERSON back to the same conclusion : government is always involved. And not in any good way. Government, is the problem. Government, … is the cause.
There IS NO SUCH THING as “GUN VIOLENCE”… There IS only “Human Violence”.
There IS a lack of respect for human life,
-a total callus regard for life; witness how many human lives are snuffed by “planned parenthood’ every day.
There IS a total breakdown of social morals in America. There IS prolific mental illness on the street. OFTEN CAUSED by your elected “leaders”. Witness New York State’s Governor Andrew Cuomo who has closed mental institutions and turned the inmates loose upon society… -who has also pardoned violent offenders and murderers -and released them early, into, –you guessed it, ‘society’…
There are many just like him. There are many truly evil people on this planet
Americans, thanks to the programming of devious deliberate external inputs and their own self-made distractions, now have the attention span of a goldfish… Americans are losing their country and their freedom right before their very eyes and they don’t even see it.
And it’s only a matter of time before ‘the next one’
I fear it is only a matter of days, before the evil in the Senate and House begin caterwauling for more “Gun Control” than ever before and pass even more restrictions to get what they want….. maybe even including “confiscation”… leading us into …
May God save us …

Spot on
Democide
There is a whole research paper on it in documents from University of Hawaii, a professor namd R J Rummel wrote it a while back
Note of fact,
No instance of democide was done by any group other than from leftist ideology
JD & Kulafarmer
👍👍
According to RJ Rummel himself, there are right wing democides and he also condemned them. Like it’s right there in his Wikipedia page lol. Come on man don’t spread lies.
You better read it again because i saw nothing about right wing anything, i did see that communist regimes were responsible for the largest number,
Ive read the papers as well
Adieu
I concur!… P.S.: Nice screen name…!
JD, and AMen
I too smell a rat…
Most if not all mental institutions have been closed down, nation wide since the 80’s.
Unfair, inhumane, etc.
Let those of family members be indirectly responsible for their well being.
In other words, let those be responsible for family that are incapable of 24/7 care of those that maybe a threat to communities.
…..and the percentage of the free to roam has been rising…..
Fox news has said publicly that they will not show the suspect’s face or give out his name for any reason, then turning to the
cbs and one of the other news channels, they had the names and faces of both shooters plastered all over the news. Kind of gives you an idea of how much or how little CBS, NBC and the rest of the communist propagandist care for a america and it’s future
I read this website every day, but seldom post. I’m just speculating here, but I give it 30 day maximum before anything more than 10 round magazines are banned by are federal government and 6 months when ar15s are banned. I’m sure there will be a grandfather clause, but we will see a ban on the sell of ar15s despite the fact that there are hundreds of firearms that can throw rounds just as effectively. We shall see. God bless America
Then it will be like england where they banned knives, that didnt work either
Kulafarmer, they also have banned scissors in England.. i don’t know how that is working for the seamstress and tailors.
Most of their asinine rules have built-in exceptions for professionals as long as they’re registered to use the dangerous item listed.
Just Sayin’,
That speaks volumes to the subject at hand. Banning scissors screams a problem with violent people. You will never ban enough inanimate objects to prevent violent people from killing their fellow man. Using their logic, based on the weapon used in the first reported murder, we would be living on a rock free earth.
banned to carry blades over a certain size not banned to own (just to clarify lol )
Interesting headline this morning on ZH regarding the Dayton shooter:
Dayton Shooter Was A Pro-Satan Leftist Who Supported Warren, Sanders, Antifa And Communism
Ken J
You can put money on that information ‘not’ being on the nightly propaganda channels of ABC/CBS/NBC/MSNBC.
All of these Shooters have one thing in common. America does not need more guns, Gun Laws, or Police to enforce them. Not one of them is/was a devote, Bible Believing Christian. To stop these shootings, AMERICA NEEDS MORE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!
YES, AMERICA NEEDS JESUS.
Look through history — many civilizations became ‘controlled’ by destroying religious beliefs.
America is becoming more and more secular, and less Christian. It is a multi-step process through divisiveness with the cults like satanism, islamism, and paganism, and with the sociopolitical secular progressivism.
I agree with you — America needs Jesus….more than ever before.
True. At work, being a Christian is not politically correct, even if a regular Catholic or Protestant. I realize that I will never get anywhere in today’s work place and look forward to retirement which is just a few years away. I am dis-engaging from society as it does not share my beliefs. As an older worker I do not relate to this political correctness. I am polite to all I encounter so long as they are not a threat to me. However, I do tend to stick to my own demographic in all aspects of my life. I live in a condo with older people, as neighbors, mostly seniors over age 70 and I do not worry about them stealing parcels from me, going on a drug induced rampage, etc. I am not their age but they are a calming influence, much like the atmosphere of visiting grand parents were on children and youth in my day. The best thing I did was to not have children because they would need to mix with these psychos, at school, in their social life, going out at night, camping (murder in BC Canada), going to movies, restaurants, plus several decades left in the workplace (a source of multi-casualty shootings). I prefer the over 55 age group. I travel with seniors on organised tours as this helps me to self-segregate from the general public. I know that any drugs they take are legally prescribed by their doctors and I would rather hear about their cholesterol issues than some punk getting stoned on Lord knows what. Me and mine vs the general public is how people will need to divide the world. This does not mean that one should not give to charity, just do it in a way that protects you. For instance, drop off used goods at a thrift store rather than have them pick up from your home. Maintain anonymity.
Speaking of Jesus, when he said to turn the other cheek, he did not mean to be stupid. The cheeks are not symmetrical and the skin contains immune functions and other biological elements to protect it. Perhaps one cheek is stronger than the other and contains more defense components. Turning the other cheek could mean to put up an increased barrier so that the culprit will have a harder time to violate the person. As for colors such as in the gray man or woman, I am researching colors which are more neutral. The problem with the color grey is that with older eyes it is difficult to see as a 20 year old eye lets in 3X as much light as a 60 year old eye. Women also want some feminine colors. Instead of bright purple, use concord, instead of bright red, wear a wine color, instead of aqua, wear teal. Regarding the El Paso mall shooting, I wonder if colors of clothing were linked to who was shot vs who could hide better. Did the gunman focus on people due to the clothing colors and styles they were wearing? Blue denim is fairly neutral.
Sunset years
Your observations on clothing are correct. The eye is naturally drawn to some colors. Is this the case in the shooting? It’s way too early to know that and most won’t bother with it during the investigation as it holds no relevance to the case itself. Some author writing a book might pick up that question during an interview.
I can definitely see where someone who’s not right in the head, not used to the stress and is popping shots at colors, noises and movement could be a major factor though.
Unless you have an interest in drawing attention to yourself then neutral colors are best. In my case I’m old, been married 32yrs and I’m ugly so those clothes ain’t gonna my situation any unless it’s a bright colored ski mask covering my mug LOL.
Either that or go with the red shirt – brown shorts theory.
Not one democrat running for President is calling for the rope!..instead they are calling for more restriction on law abiding citizens..
And yet freewill it was the republican in-cahoots with other posers who enacted gun control on us after the Vegas shooting.
Matt,
There is no difference,
But you already knew that
Yup just pointing out them blurred lines to blind followers
anti suppressor and wanting to pass more stroke of pen laws making even more 2A American companies go out of business and now openly supporting red flag laws based on say so from unqualified third parties with no due process…..
Yes, the Democrats always call for control… That is their platform CONTROL…. They can’t even control their hypocrisy party…. yet they wish to control your life…. They are the mental ones…..
“PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE”, NO MATTER WHAT TOOL THEY USE IT IS ALWAYS A PERSON THAT COMMITS THE CRIME AND MAYHEM. THE PROBLEM IS THE VIOLENT ENVIRONMENT THAT IS PROJECTED IN THIS COUNTRY BY THE “SO CALLED ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS” AND THE LACK OF PROPER DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT THAT “IS NOT” BEING USED AND TAUGHT. ALSO THE NO BACKBONE COURTS ALLOWING CRIMINALS MORE RIGHTS THAN THE VICTIMS. ALONG WITH SELF PROFITING POLITICIANS WHO ONLY CARE ABOUT HOW THEY CAN SKIM MORE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES. “GREED” AND “HATE” THE DRIVING FORCE FOR ALL OUR PROBLEMS.
Joe you are absolutely right it is not the guns it is the people behind it . everything you said is true .the entertainment , lack of discipline and respect and the greedy politicians is the force behind all this
Cathy, the ” You better let that child scream, and cry for what it wants, and stomp his feet and throw a fit, don’t you dare discipline that child, you’ll warp her personality ” mindset has gone a long way towards the development of the anarchy becoming more prevalent in the U.S. today. In my opinion .
A friend of mine, years ago–her daughter was pitching a fit and I told her the child needed some discipline. Her response? “You ever lay a hand on my child you won’t live long.” My response? “Is that the only kind of discipline you know?”
That was the end of the conversation. I can talk to people my own age (or older) about the “mom look,” or the “mom tone,” and they know exactly what I mean. Mom didn’t have to use the back of her hand. All she had to do was look at us and we stopped whatever it was we were doing. Silence is deadly. : )
Lauren
Know exactly what you mean about THE LOOK. And on the rare occasion that it didn’t work we got wait till your father gets home. You only got the belt across the a$$ once and you learned a valuable life lesson
A few months ago I was in a church meeting, sitting behind this family with a baby that was maybe a year to 18 months old. She was hitting her mom in the face with a toy car, repeatedly. Mom allowed it.
I caught her eye, and shook my head. She looked at the car, looked at me, and mimed hitting her mom with it. I shook my head. She did it again. I shook my head again. She dropped the car.
Discipline. She was old enough to know that she was doing something she shouldn’t once she was told. And she complied. Mom and Dad didn’t tell her because she was “too young to understand.”
And yes, when I was growing up “Wait till your father gets home” was certainly a potent threat!
Lauren—- Good for you, for doing something. Hopefully it will “stick”, with the kid. —Having said that, I am (in this day and age) that the parents did not chew you out. (sigh). But maybe they did not notice you …..
There is a saying, that it takes a community to raise a child. It does. Parents truly cannot be “everywhere”. However, in this day and age, folks are often livid if someone corrects their child, or tells them no.
The Democrats want more gun control. The criminals will always have guns. The decent, honest citizens will not have have guns. More proof that the Democrats are in bed with the criminals. The citizens will be defenseless. It will be a a blood bath.
Fox news reporting, 4 killed, 2 injured in attacks by man with a knife in Orange county California. No reporting of whether it was an sinister looking assault knife or a just a normal, everyday knife. Police are blaming “pure evil” as the motivation, which would indicate they are not blaming the knife.
Awaiting democrats demand to ban knives, or at least require background checks and age limits for purchase of these instruments of mass destruction. Common sense limits, don’t you see. Why do civilians need access to such deadly weapons? They should be restricted to trained professionals like your chef, gardener, and possibly your private security team.
Dennis
We have KTLA news so I can tell you it was just an ordinary kitchen knife, one you would use for cutting up meat.
As acdh stated.. “man will find a way to kill if they want too”.
Another wal mart event stopped in south Springfield Mo wal mart. 20 something man drove to their neighborhood market, donned protective gear and camo. went in wal mart filming self on phone..had 100 rounds.(and some kind weapon, article did not say). manager pulled fire alarm off duty fireman held subject until police arrived. most news won’t report non event.
Tenn. has an excaped inmate, now wanted for murder etc. have the reward to 52K.they are searching area near Henning, but really no one has seen him. They say he can shave his hair, but won’t be able to hide the Tat’s…his tattoos are ugly…
